Well, i admit, i just googled "average winter temperatures in New York" having no clue about weather on other side of pond. Living there imho winters are only choice that should be considered.
But South Carolina, where OP lives and probably will drive most of time, seems much warmer state, so if having to drive to north only in rare occasions, imho all-seasons might do a bit better |

I don't recommend anything less grippy than stock tires. I'm currently using 225/45 Indy 500s on 17x8 on the street. I swap the rears out if I'm actually drifting, but if you're just trying to do donuts in parking lots, get something decent and inflate the tires to 45+psi if they aren't breaking loose. It's more about throttle/clutch/steering input than tires.

If your still stuck on the idea of needing a low grip tire after everything everyone has suggested then I recommend visiting a skid pad and learning to play at the limit before making any kind of decision.

I have. From lotus Elise at the lotus academy to a few different sets of tires on the Miata.
The Miata was most fun on 10yr old tires that had no grip at all when I bought it. Seems most new tires these days have grip as their highest priority. I have a hard time understanding that a car's slideways-ness is unaffected by tire compound. |

I'm on 225 Extreme contacts and my traction light is on more then the CEL on my Nissan.
A lot of imparting oversteer on the car is from driver input, not just bashing the throttle and having low grip tires. |

"slidey fun" to me means crappy second hand tires, aka nothing I would want to use on the street.
If you want something "low grip" that will still be good street tires but not super sticky summer tires, think bridgestone ecopia or other low rolling resistance tires. And if you really want to make the tires look large, go for 205/55/16 and lower the car accordingly. Sliding around in this car is really easy. And for the love of God do not go staggered. And buy winter tires. This car is phenomenal in snow with winter tires. |
