I've got the non push button FR-S. The key I use all the time is still working fine for all the buttons and stuff.
The key that has been sitting on the key rack since I got it with the car doesn't work the buttons at all.
Turning the actual key starts it up every time though.

The car doesn't beep at you once you get out? Mine beeps constantly if I take the key outside of the car with me while it's running. I don't recall the exact message, it's something about key not present or turn off engine or something. I could be standing right next to the car and it will still go do this.

I've had the "key not detected" issue when my keys are in my pocket with my phone. If my key is under the phone, it's a problem.

Mine doesn't beep like that until I close the door with the keys outside. As long as the door is open, it doesn't mind that the keys have walked away.

That might be it, I don't do it often enough to remember the details.

Have you tried with your spare key, to see if the issue is with the key (battery maybe?) or something in the car itself?
Yep, tried with the spare key too and it still happens. But... Since you mentioned it... I'll try with the fib in my left pocket today!

I bought the car brand new in March 17 so I wouldn't expect it to be the fob battery. If the left pocket trick doesn't work, anyone happen to know what batteries it takes?

My first batteries barely lasted two years. Two years after that, I'm starting to get signs they may be failing again. Failure after one year is a bit shorter than expected, but it wouldn't surprise me.

Check your owner's manual, because they changed at some point and what people tell you here may be wrong for your year. Or just open the thing up and look. When I buy key fob batteries, I usually pop the fob open right there in the store to look at the number to make sure I'm getting a match.

Won't the batteries run down faster if you're actually clicking the buttons on the fob a lot, rather than just keeping it in your pocket and using the proximity/touch sensors on the car?

Just confirmed earlier that if I start the car and get out it does beep but once I’m about ten feet away the beeping stops, the car remains running, and when I get back in it’s like nothing happened. No message on my screen about it.

Both FOBs are supposed to last the same time even if you aren't using them because they are constantly putting off a signal, or so I've been told. Even if one stays in the drawer and the other is used daily.

According to the manual, the car should know when the FOB is inside the car, or outside the door or trunk. If it is in the car and you are getting the message then something is wrong.

That said, if it's a 17 then the dealer should know why you are getting the no key present message and fix the issue.

When I wash the car, I can't keep the FOB in my pocket, because the doors keep locking and unlocking.

Keyless entry and start - Pros and Cons.
