It's simple. Offer rebates, show the rebate on the car loan on as a cash down payment and sell the vehicle at full pop. Put more vehicles on the road. That's a big reason nissan took off so fast recently, not because it's some end all be all product.

Then the used car market is flooded with altimas and sentras and rogues that are 1 or 2 years old basically selling for half what a new one costs with low mileage. It's very easy to see how the product gets sold.

LOL the linked article says the complete opposite that this tread seems to imply. More of a clickbait site countering another clickbait site. A fun read though since they may as well have said that the other sites were spewing bullshit. We should see a full write up on how the car will be released next week from motoring.au any second now.

And those god awful, big, ugly, unneeded, tacky as hell, monstrosities of door handles.
When one of your major body design cues is "HEY LOOK AT THESE DOOR HANDLES" you have to wonder what they are thinking.

For a new Z to be any good, it would have to be either a 6 cylinder or turbo 4 lightweight car to draw from the Datsun Z roots, or go upmarket to a high tech GT car like the 300ZX. I don't see either of these as being profitable so I'm guessing even if they do make another one, it will probably suck.

That's just it though. The vast majority of drivers don't want to have to actually drive the car (yes, even "sports" cars). They want the car to do all the work for them. Guys that like to actually drive and hang out on forums dedicated to cars and driving them are the exception not the rule. We tend to have a totally different perspective than the rest of the car buyers but unfortunately the manufacturers have too bow to the masses not us.

Nissan doesn't give a crap about the Z. They keep it around to let people ooooh and ahhhh at the dealerships but don't really need to sell them. I cross-shopped the FRS with a 370Z, and while it seemed like a nice car, they had it in the show room and I couldn't test drive it.

But they really wanted to sell me a Maxima or Ultima something fierce. Had to test drive 3 of 'em before they'd talk to me about the Z lol. I can assure you, there is nothing special about them other than the TERRIBLE cvt. But they were throwing discounts and rebates and trade in offers at me. For people who don't care much I can see that getting sales. My fiance's parents fell for it and hate their Rogue.

Has anyone else noticed all the Nissan sedan drivers seem to buy into the "Our cars are real fast, I promise" marketing and CGI ads? They fly by at 90+mph on highways and cut in and out of traffic more than any other car about there.

Anyway, Nissan in general is garbage nowadays.

Edit... Typo on 270Z, meant 370Z...

Article? How is that subprime? You seem to be arguing that they are selling their vehicles at volume with a smaller profit margin than their competitors. What does that have to do with subprime or people defaulting?

If the used market is so good then more people would buy used and less would buy new, but the Rogue keeps selling more and more each year.

Toyota stopped selling sports cars. Then they realized their brand was lack luster. Nissan doesn’t need to sell the Z but they will because the Z brings energy into their brand.

I test drove a 15 Nismo in early 16 and really wanted to like it since they were almost giving the damned thing away. I couldn't no matter how much I tried. It was fast but lacked in any type of feeling at all. It is a true GT car in every sense of the word. I was also not prepared to start wearing the number of gold chains required when you own one.

Obviously by doing what so described the dealer shows people who should never be buying a car as able to. Easier to get subprime and first time buyers etc to buy. Statistically those people generally don't have the best sense when it comes to bills.....

Rebates only work on new cars, hence the volume increasing year by year.

Don't even mention the various CVT lawsuits and issues.

Loved my 91 300ZX NA. Bought it with 14K on the clock for $15K and put 100k+ miles on it. Could of used more HP though.

Never cared for the styling of the 350-370z though. If they came out with a good looking replacement,, with enough HP,,, I'd consider it.
