Tein Coilovers Rear Side Difficulties - Toyota GR86, 86, FR-S and Subaru BRZ Forum & Owners Community

Hey guys, I am pretty new to the forum and to suspension changes so bear with me. A friend and I installed my new coilovers. The front two were easy, the rear passenger side was also easy, however the rear driver said is extremely difficult for us.

The problem is that we cannot align the rear side with the rear trail arm or the rear lateral trail arm (I think its called one of these two) with the nuts and bolts after we installed the coilover. This is the arm that is closest to the wheel on the very side. This headache all started when we took out and removed the entire RCA on the driver side and the arm beside the rotor (rear lateral or trail arm). We know we didnt have to take out the entire RCA and the other arm but we did for clearance to get the factory bolts out. It seems the rotor is not aligned or out of place because the nuts and bolts are off. It doesn't make sense because all we did is remove the RCA and the other arm. It is around 1/4 inch off the factory holes. Does anybody have any idea how we align everything correctly to the proper holes? Is the rotor out of place? What did we ddo wrong?

We took the RCA off and the rear lateral arm or trail arm and worked backwards and its still off.

The left green arrow is the trailing arm, the right green arrow is the LCA (Lower control arm), the white line is the toe arm (sometimes called a lateral link), and the yellow arrow is the upper wishbone (sometimes called an upper A arm).

You should only have to disconnect 3 bolts (hub bolt, shock bolt, endlinks bolt) on the LCA to install the rear assembly, the entire thing drops down and you can put a jack under the LCA to lift it into place with everything installed.

Yes! That image is perfect! the left green arrow is the assembly that does not align correctly when attempting to put it back in place. I know we did not need to remove it but we did. But just because we removed the lateral link doesn't mean we can't put it back on right? We just don't know why it doesn't want to align with the holes.

Sorry the left green arrow is actually the trailing arm. I would disconnect the 3 outer bolts on the LCA, let the LCA hang straight down, and then try to move the hub to its correct location to fit the trailing arm. Take out the rear Tein coils just until you get the trailing arms installed.

We tried to move the hub to the correct location but it only moves up and down. We need to move it left or right. We completely removed the LCA and tried to align it and no luck. We reinstalled the LCA, and attempted to realign the trailing arm and no luck. The hub seems to be in an incorrect position compared to the other side though. How can this be?

Install the trailing arm onto the hub. The LCA is easier to line up. You will need to lift up on the hub while trying to fit the lca, it should pivot some. With it dropped all the way down the toe arm is tugging at the front and changing the alignment.

Try using a just to lift things up a bit.

If you need to bring them down more have your friend gently add weight with his foot to the hub.

It's a fun game getting it in the hole

So we lifted it up but the arm does not want to go on. It seems its off a little. Here is a picture of how it is. We tried moving the wheel hub but it only gives way up and down. It seems we need to shift it to the left somehow. Any other suggestion guys?
