I greatly prefer this

Corn syrup over 100% pure maple syrup? Does not compute.

From about the age of 4 to 13 I went to my grandparents in Quebec every spring and made the stuff by the gallon. It was not a modern method either. Big 8 foot evap tray on a home made wood stove base. A shit load of work for every gallon.

interesting....

The "Rule of 86"

How many gallons of sap does it take to make one gallon of maple syrup?
Using the "Rule of 86," you can figure that the number of gallons of sap you need to produce one gallon of syrup is equal to 86 gallons divided by the percent of sugar in the sap.

Never made syrup but we did make our own "shortening" (read lard) and pork rinds/cracklins.

The ONLY breakfast when I was a kid. Bought in about a 2 pound bag. Do you have any idea how big a two pound bag of puffed wheat is?
If we wanted it sweetened we had to use maple syrup.

Oh, my, that looks like it would take a whole bunch of brown sugar and real cream to make that palatable .........

When I was a kid, back on the farm, this looked like our normal breakfast.

Why? Because we raised our own chickens and hogs ......

Add a side of grits (with lots of home churned butter and brown sugar) and a couple slices of homemade bread, covered with home made preserves, and a big glass of high butterfat, unpasteurized milk, from our Guernsey cow, and you had a real breakfast ...... yum-yum
