Yep, grits ...... mix in some cheese, butter and garlic and bake for a spell....... makes a tasty side dish .....

As a breakfast side dish, I like them with butter, cream and brown sugar....yum yum.

Growing up, we had grits just about every morning.

My Mom would sometimes take the leftovers, form it into patties and fry them then put gravy over them at lunch or dinner. She'd do the same with leftover (real) mashed potatoes.

Good stuff, at least for the taste buds, not so much for the arteries but we didn't know better.

No pic but today I got a grilled pork bahn mi at my favorite cheap hole in the wall vietnamese sandwich place.

The nice ladies who make the sandwiches know me well enough now that the past two times I went they asked if I wanted two sandwiches because I used to get two at a time (trying to do one nowadays unless I'm really starving) and they also understand what I mean when I customize what I want on them.

It takes a while since they mostly don't speak English (in the past I've had to literally google images search a cucumber to say "I don't want any of this"). Good pay off now, though.

Super nice to get that kind of mutual respect

Yea, it is a nice feeling being a "regular" sometimes. Reminds me of the cheesesteak place I've been going to since about 1980. I walk in and sit at the bar and within minutes I have a pint of Bud and a combo steak in front of me without saying a word.

Grits are just boiled corn meal porridge. Like any type of porridge they are pretty bland on their own and need something to give them some flavour. If you have ever had plain oatmeal or cream of wheat you have pretty much had base grits as far as taste goes.

Yeah, but be sure to get the white hominy grits. They also have yellow grits, made from yellow corn, but like yellow snow, best just left alone.

Oh that is true! I have had both many times and learned to ask which before getting them.

Love those gals! It's a new store, so new employees all the time. When the owner helps me she always remembers my order, and gives me a free extra protein scoop.

What’s this place? Been looking for a good cheesesteak in the area.

It’s defintely an acquired taste. You should try some with white horseradish and make sure it’s the spicy creamy kind unless you’re not into spicy, though the heat is very different from heat from your typical pepper.
