Fer sure, fer sure ........ it was hard to miss when the 175 mm guns were firing.

It was bad enough when the 105 mm main gun on an M60 tank fired.

Reminds me of the time, back in the 60s, at the tank firing range in Grafenwoehr, Germany. I took my mechanized Infantry Company to that hell hole for a week, to experience the firepower of a tank platoon (5 tanks) that was attached to my company. There I learned why the call, the armor branch, the "combat arm of decision".

It's amazing to witness how much firepower 5 tanks can deliver in a short amount of time.

Every time a tank would fire, the muzzle blast would be strong enough to blow my fatigues to the side ...... let alone the dust and SOUND.

I noticed the tank platoon commander, standing beside me, never jumped when the tanks fired. I always jumped. I asked him how he kept from jumping ...... he said he knew when they were going to fire. So, he said, I'll signal you before the next one fires ...... he did ..... and I still jumped .....

The "secret" is to learn what you can do yourself and what you should have a professional come in and do ....... and the difference between the two.

Generally, I have found, that for your average homeowner it's best to call on a professional to repair/install, major electrical appliances; anything to do with heating or air conditioning; anything to do with natural gas (furnace, stove, hot water heater) and most things to do with the pressure side of plumbing, that is behind walls.

Yep, behind each of those examples, old humfrz has a story about when I tried to fix something myself.....and was lucky I didn't blow up, burn down or flood my house.

Oh, hell ....... what's wrong with one more double tap on that breaker .....

(at least I can't put pennies behind fuses anymore .... )

Haha other than major electrical work, I can pretty much do everything by myself. I have been good at crafting and building from young age & my step dad taught me carpentry. I’ve helped extend their house (both inside & outside work).

This weekend, I’ll be fixing Sheetrock holes & grout in the shower tile. Nothing major... most major thing I’ll be doing this weekend will be trying to fix my SRS airbag light.

That's good advice right there...

I have fixed a few appliances in my day, and done a little electrical work (running outlets, etc) and full blown construction (building outbuildings, roofing, finishing basements) but I pretty much leave that to the professionals these days.

Right now, for example, I'm off work today in my basement office and can hear the workers upstairs doing things on our kitchen remodel I know I can do, but it would take be about 2000% longer.

Over the years I have definitely moved from DYI to PSE (pay someone else) for anything major. It was good to have the skills when I couldn't afford to pay someone else, but its worth something to know the job is being done correctly and efficiently and that I probably won't end up in the emergency room from writing the check.
