catback exhaust choices down to two
i'm getting catback only, no header mods or CAIs, maybe a drop in filter that's about it. here's what i'm looking for:
1. deeper exhaust note than the stock but no drone or at least very little 2. well reviewed brands 3. fitment and design have to be 2nd to none, no extra low hanging mufflers my choices are down to Perrin 2.5 resonated and Greddy Supreme SP, i've heard the sound clips of the two and liked both. prices are similar too, which one would you pick? |

Greddy is the louder of the two. (but honestly not by much). I had the Perrin 2.5 resonated myself. Honestly for me they are a bit too quiet. Not really worth the money. I even had UEL catless headers and i felt i had the same volume as stock CBE.
However if i HAD to choose one i'd say go Greddy. You do have the benefit of changing out the midpipe for slightly more noise if you want it. The Perrin uses their own proprietary V-band clamps which are nice because no gaskets are needed, but you are stuck using their midpipe.

I had the Perrin and it got very load over time. I traded it off.

This is the thing that blows my mind -- I've done research on these two catbacks (perrin 2.5 res, greddy SP) for years now, and the answers in this thread don't match what others are saying.
I hear some folks saying the Greddy and Q300 are the two most quiet catbacks that you can purchase for this car --- followed by the Perrin 2.5 which is approximately twice as loud. But we've got contradictions all over the place here -- Your best bet is to buy both, and return one (if possible), or to go find someone with one of the two catbacks and ask if you can try them out. I'm an exhaust guy -- I've gone through numerous setups, had custom work done, and eventually ended up back to the stock muffler. I've learned that opinions vary SO much from one person to the next. It's impossible to reach a consensus here from the forum it seems -- The one thing that I think we do agree on: Either of these two exhausts are fairly quiet (in comparison to the other market offerings). If you're worried about being too loud then you are starting with smart choices. |

I had the Greddy Supreme SP catback and it was pretty quiet and tame. Very civil and mature. I needed to add a catless front pipe to it and then it got it louder and more exotic to where I wanted it.
But with just everything else stock it's very reasonable, not obnoxious at all, and zero drone on the freeway. Literally zero.

(legal limit in CA is 95 db at 20ft, 45 degree angle at 3k rpm.) . But because the tone was so much lower it seemed mild. My new setup is rated to be around the same db. But it sounds A LOT louder because its just a higher frequency note.

Both have for the most part pretty perfect fitment.
Honestly there arent too many exhausts that have fitment issues on our cars largley due to how the exhaust sits, and the fact that its made to be taken off easily. Compared to Ford Focus/Fiesta which requires cutting of the stock CBE. As long as you dont go with a dual canister setup (greddy Evo GT, Invidia N1) you shouldnt really have any issues with fitment. I've had the WORKS CBE, Megan Racing CBE, Nameless Axelback 3", Perrin 2.5" Resonated, and back to the Nameless Axelback 2.5". They've all had perfect fitment.

In the end it definitely is affected by other things, headers obviously, and other harder to define things like psyche. On some days my exhaust seems super quiet, on others it seems a bit louder - depending on my mood/awareness/how loud I play my music and so on. And then you have things like subtle exhaust leaks that can add to the perception that an exhaust is loud, when actually it's just worked its way loose or wasn't quite installed correctly. End of the day, either exhaust in good shape, correctly installed, will be on the quieter spectrum. As others have also mentioned, you can also tune the volume based on what pipes you use - if you need quieter you can always just use the muffler on the Greddy setup, or go louder with a catless setup. Going quieter is usually the harder direction on our cars for some reason
