wow, really? that is amazing. 75% of BRZ's are manual? that is crazy

No, no, no. It's obviously because the MT needed the extra 5HP to try and keep up with our superior shifting, lightning fast, flappy paddles!!

Even more amazing when you consider that of the overall vehicle sales in the US only 4% are now MT. Canada is at about double that at 9% which is still a far cry for the 75% on the BRZ.
I don't know numbers for the 86 but the FRS was only 60% MT at one point (that may have changed but I can't find any recent data).

Emissions makes sense, period.

Give the amount of cheating VW was caught with (and the fact that it was a WV lab contracted to do real-world testing for EU diesel standards using CARB methods), every automaker moving forward doesn't want to get caught with anything resembling an emissions cheat, even if it was close.

Perhaps CA regulations prevented rest of NA from getting upgrades, but CA regulations also caught the biggest emissions cheat in history. I'm okay with that.

so...what MPG y'all getting on those manuals on mostly highway drives? I got 31mpg on a 12hr road trip doing 75-80 mostly. I don't really need the big brakes, better shocks, or the red manifold...but man would it look nice in the wheels... every time I see the stock brakes, just makes me think i'm driving a base corolla or something similar... I'll just end up painting them black. Maybe they'll be somewhat hidden that way.

It’s pretty impressive, but not as much as it would be for a more generic car than the BRZ. The same people who can appreciate the twins for the small, lightweight, loud, rough-riding (comparatively speaking) cars that they are can also appreciate that a manual transmission adds to the driving experience rather than looking at it as an inconvenience.

If you’re going to paint them do it sooner than later because it’s a bitch to get them completely clean.
