Quick search shows that SU003-07349 is lower than 20 USD but 30502AA150 is around 40 USD.
Confirmed they are the exact same parts, just upcharged by Subaru.

I installed the updated TOB this weekend and it's buttery smooth. $17 from Toyota.

I hope this one lasts longer than the ACT bearing I put on with their clutch. It was squealing badly at idle and in gear after 1k miles (two track days included) with my new turbo kit.

So I start the car yesterday morning and hear the TOB going nuts. I'm at 80k so I guess it's time. Glad I found this TSB so I didn't order the old bearing. If you go to the normal parts page it still lists the old part unless you tell it you have a 2017. They must be looking to pawn off the old stock.

I was thinking. Is it possible that so many are having failures due to that DIY on this forum for adjusting the clutch engagement point? Any car I have ever had, that adjustment is't really for the engagement point but to adjust how much free pedal you have before contacting the TOB. Maybe people are adjusting this to the point where they have their TOB under load at all times.

Nope. It is just a crappy TOB. No mystery. Mine and many others were completely stuck adjustment and they went bad. The very fact there is a TSB and new part number shows how common the issue is. The vast majority of owners will never mess with adjustment.

Stock setup on mine, went around 70k i think, maybe 65k. Just the nature of the car, but if you're doing it outside of warranty, i recommend replacing other tranny components too, save on labor in the long run.

Has anyone got their TOB fixed by Toyota even though they're outside the warranty? I just passed the three year mark a couple months ago, but I also have ~80K miles...

This might be a dumb question but which warranty covers this? 36k or 60k?

Yep. Even though there is a TSB saying it is covered it still remains a wear part so they didn't extend it to the drive train warranty.

I actually called a few local Toyota dealers last week asking about this TSB. I thought they were going to blow me off saying it's a wear part and they can't do anything.

Nope, they just had no idea wtf I was talking about. The one dealers service desk didn't know what I was talking about, so they transferred me to the service manager. But he wasn't there and never returned my call. Called another dealer and the woman at the service desk had a 0 idea what I was talking about. She kept saying "nope, there's no recall here for that car". I tried explaining that it's not a recall, just a TSB, but she kept insisting that there's no recall. Didn't bother to look into it for me, or even ask the manager or someone.

I'm just paying to have my done at a local shop that's involved in the local 86 scene. Not like Toyota would replace mine anyway as I have 80k miles and am a few months over the 3yr limit

So I get a lot of noise when my clutch is depressed in the mornings when my engine is cold, goes away when I let off the clutch. Once the engine warms up the noise from the clutch goes away completely. It sounds like a light scraping noise. Started in about October, BRZ has 70k miles on it. Thoughts?

Anyone else get a sound from the front of the car when engine braking in 3rd or 2nd gear (low speeds)?
Sort of a “ROMPROMPROMPROMrum”
Sound is comparable to when I was first learning to play electric guitar.

I don’t play guitar anymore.

This is what annoys me with the dealers. When you call the service department, they're not knowledgeable at all. I wish car enthusiasts could just talk to the mechanics directly. I went in with the damn TSB printed out to tell them EXACTLY what the issue was, but they wouldn't take it. They just said they needed to do their $150 diagnosis to confirm what the issue is based on the symptoms I was having. All that only to tell me what I already knew. Every time I had to talk to the service rep who was supposed to be helping me, she would put me on hold for every question I had so she could go ask the mechanic about it. Why not just let me talk to the damn mechanic so we could resolve my issue without going through a middle (wo)man?!

Yes and no. At first they told me I was out of warranty (TOB qualifies under the 3yr/36k Mile Warranty). I told them to look up the "Elite Protection Plan" I purchased, which is basically an extended warranty. It added 2k to the total price of the car and technically doesn't cover parts that are going bad, but if that part was to fail and result in a "Mechanical Failure" aka leave me stranded, it would be covered. The service rep called to make a claim for me, and they decided to cover it under that. I thought I was suckered into it when I bought it, but a $50 deductible vs a huge hole in my wallet was pretty nice.

As far as getting it fixed under that 3yr/36k mile warranty, it's sort of hit or miss depending on the dealer. I've seen a few posts where they actually covered it, and others where they wouldn't. Good luck!

I adjusted my clutch engagement point at around 5K miles, and I'm approaching 75K miles now. My clutch has been squeaky for the last 30-40K miles, but nothing's failed yet. We'll see how much longer it holds up.
