By distance I mean like 10-15sec ETA until collision, which is still fairly close when assholes are preventing you from passing. But yeah, I don't pass on those when I can't see what's coming up.

I think you will find that driving through any large urban center is about the same anyplace and is not just a California thing. I spent two days driving around the Bay area and would take it over Toronto traffic any time.

True. Trouble is with California, *everywhere* is bad. At least somewhere back east there's plenty of open roads outside of the main cities/urban centers. But I digress, I'll just have to wait for the next track day for safe speeding.

I drove from the Nevada border to Sacramento and saw loads and loads of cool roads. There are plenty in California but you just have to drive a bit further to get to them.
