So the leather (or vinyl) on my steering feel is starting to peel. I was thinking of replacing it with a TRD wheel, which carries over the OEM airbag and other components.

Would this be a performance modification and therefore illegal in SSC? Or does it fall under cosmetic?

Todd is co-driving with me for the match (unless HS makes a class) and my brother wants to co-drive in the pro if he can get time off. My wife is also driving. (Open/ladies depends on codrive situation)

My wife and I are members of the hosting club in Ft Myers (GCAC) and will not show up on registration till the last minute. (Whole club is registering on site) - so the pro solo is already at 5 for SSC and the match is at 4.

If I were to decide between the two, it would be Dixie since it's closer to me and many people from my region will be there, possibly a few in SSC, same goes for the Zmax match tour.

I'll still post a co-drive feeler on the FB group for Ft Myers, I don't need to be at that one, but want at least one drive in an SSC car this spring before I decide.

Is it the same size? If its the same size I would think that it no one should care. I've seen people run like a JDM Coachworks wrapped wheel and no one said anything

It’s the same diameter but thicker. Also doesn’t have the thumb rests on the 10 & 2 o’clock.

How many miles on the car? I had that happen to my car while still under warranty and got the dealer to replace it for me.

I will say, the TRD wheel is pretty sweet though. I really want one, but can't justify the cost.

Steering wheels don't fall under comfort and convenience. Sorry. Gotta run the same wheel that came on the same year car (can't change between years, and have to have been available in the US).

Steering wheels with an integral airbag may not be changed.

One could argue that the spirit of the rule is only to prevent someone from removing the airbag, or mess with it and risk getting injured. Because if the steering wheel doesn't have an airbag, then you can change it. But if you follow the rule to the letter, then you can't.

"D. Alternate steering wheels are allowed, provided the outside diameter
is not changed by more than one inch from the standard size. Steering
wheels with an integral airbag may not be changed."

Could definitely argue that, but I wouldn't want to if it came to a PC. To me the rule is pretty clear.

I would write a letter for clarification.

ok I get it about the TRD wheel. But you have to run the same year? 13-16 BRZ/FRS are the same. I have a 14 so i’d have to put a 14 wheel? How do I even check for that?

I wound't even worry about it. I bet the PN is the same from 13-16, and if not who cares?

Honestly I think the TRD wheel should be able to be used, but given there are a ton of snowflakes in this class I would definitely be legal to the letter.

Yep. You should replace your wheel with one that has the same part number. If you replace the wheel with anything else you risk being protested. (IMHO: it'd be a weenie protest, but I bet it would be upheld.)
