I have now had this tire on two cars in two different sizes, and for me its a great summer tire for a daily driver. Good amounts of grip and great steering feel, all without being outrageously expensive. I used the 245/40R17 Indy 500 in autocross last season and they handled themselves well, only giving up time to the guys on RE-71R. Most of the guys on performance summer tires at my office run them (These guys are tire engineers), and several others in my autocross group.

No issues in the wet either in my experience, even heavy downpours where the Primacys hydroplaned often.

I use 245/40-17 for my autox, but 225 for my daily.

Steering feel degrades significantly with wider front tires. My current set of summers are 235 and I won't do that again. I prefer the 225s.

My progression with my front width goes up to 245 then back down to a 225. I also prefer 225.

It's all up to what you're going to sacrifice. You wanna "look" good or you wanna "drive" good. There's no right answer to that one. I've done both and I like the "look" good part, specially when you're staring at your car... but in the end, I like "drive" good makes me happy.

My currently daily, I'm running 18x8 +35 w 225/40 and it drives WAY better than 245... but I'm planning to go back to 17's (17x8 +30~35) w 225/45. How light the steering wheel and car feels in 17's w 225 is totally worth it.

Check also how much tires will cost when calculating prices. Usually same tires of bigger diameter but of low profile often cost more. For example my winter R16 tires set was 150eur less then R17 one. If one tracks and wears tires fast and has to buy replacements often ..

Tread life per dollar is a big factor for me. I go through tires crazy fast. If you’re looking for extreme perf tires and simply look for the brand with the cheapest price it may end up biting you in the ass down the road. The tread wear rating on the tires is not a good gauge either. I actually dropped down to max perf category years back because I wasn’t autoxing much and thought I would save a little. In the end it just wasn’t worth it to me. They didn’t last significantly longer so the money savings wasn’t big enough to offset the huge reduction of perf.

Which takes me back to the Dunlop ZII Star Specs. For me this has been the best trade off for price/perf/wear I’ve come across so far.

I just got my FRS and who ever had it before me put some 500tw Falkens on it. These tires are the worst I’ve ever owned. I’ve done one autox event so far and I spent the entire runs sliding. A crisp turn in is enough to put the car sideways. I don’t even need to give it power. This would have driven me nuts on previous cars but on this car it’s actually kind of fun. The car is so easy to control while sliding it almost has me considered not going for the tippy top perf this go around.

Enjoying ZIISS? I had reg ZII for autox, cuz those thing heats up fast, so early spring season autox, after first lap, the tires were ready for full blown lap. But felt like it was a double edge sword. If you can run perfect lap, that tire will give you full potential... but if you fuck it up, time drop like crazy.

Hi,
Instead of creating a new thread I will post my question here:
I'm about to change my tires for the first time (did +35 000 kilometers with the OEM set).
They are pretty worn out and I love the fact that my GT86 is super tail-happy. But it can sometimes become a little dangerous.
I already have semi-slicks tires for track days (at Spa <3).
I'm looking for something that maintains the playful character of the car, so something that's not too grippy, while being more linear and consistant than the OEM Michelin Primacy. Or, grippy when it's dry, slippy when it's wet. Something that is kind of polarizing.
Any recommendation ?
May I add, this is for the OEM wheels. I read 225 can fit on those.
Thank you.
