0W-20 or 5W-30 alternate per Manual
Hello,
Just want to have some opinions. From the Manual (Asia version, summer all year round), It state that if you use 5W-30 oil, your next oil change must revert to 0W-20. But my distro only have 5W-30. Would there be any problem if i use 5W-30 all the way without going back to 0W-20 ? I'm ok with the slight decrease in fuel economy. Not sure if the more 'heavy' oil will shorten the life of the pump or other stuffs. Thanks |

Just to add on...
On the factory oil (which is 0W-20), From the day i collect the new car till 1k, the oil level was constant at the upper line (dip stick). I change to Motul 300V 5W-30 at 1k (km), till now (7k km) i notice the oil level have drop 1/4inch below the upper line (est 0.4Quart) Wondering if the oil weightage have any bearing on oil consumption. |

Motul 300V is much better for racing, but should be changed sooner than conventional oils. There isn't something like a universally better oil. It depends the application. The same holds about the oil weights.

no need for anything more than a good 0W20, unless you are tracking, autox, etc. maintain level and intervals and you are good to go.

If you never see below 0 celcius temps 5w30 synthetic is fine and in fact better suited to warm climates. I assume where you are in asia is fairly warm all year.
Im in Australia (never see below about 5C and summer temps to 35C been using 5w30 for 4 years E85 fuel and track time no issues at all. no noticeable difference in fuel economy no noticeable oil consumption during schedule service Subaru were using 5w30 and 10w30 |

As per JDM Subaru OM you can go racing 5w40. With out any side effects. The only reason 0w20 is in there is for fuel economy kick back and cold weather starting. So yes you can run the 5w30 with no worries! An oil cooler would really help it will help maintain oil pressure and add longevity to your engine. Attached is the JDM Japanese page.

I use 0w-20 in the winter and 5w-30 in the summer here in New Jersey in the USA
