Why didn't the rebels just turn one of the smaller transports around and blow up the dreadnaught earlier? I mean, even an Xwing going lightspeed (or technically faster?) has to have the equivalent energy of a couple nukes. If running a ship into something while going plaid is a thing, seems like an easy way to blow up the death star, or a planet for that matter...

I liked it. My wife, my 16 yo son and I had a great time. Some times you have to just let it go, eat your popcorn, and enjoy the movie.

So true..That scene was super cool tho minus the guy who just had to use the silence to let out a giant burp in the theater at that moment.

I agree with most of the negative opinions so I will give the positive points I found:

1) I liked the unexpected killing of Snoke. I liked he thought he was soooo smart and could see all and yet Kylo tricked him seeing a motion but not really.

2) Like that you think that the rebels fleeing in ships were going to make it to that planet because of a master plan(don't agree why it was kept secret from poe) and then have them turned in by the dipshit guy from casino subplot.

3) Ice planet was cool and I am glad it reminded me of Hoth

I am not a Star Wars nerd...but becoming one.

The only thing about the movie I didn't care for was Luke's shoulder flick. That was a Marvel Universe movie move, and completely unnecessary.

I loved the old-school Yoda, but then I'm old school (old enough to have seen all the movies in theatre during original release) and hated CGI Yoda.

For those that don't think Star Wars hasn't had corny dialog since the original, you weren't listening very well. It's always been there and is part of the attraction. It was lost in E1,2,3 a bit or delivered by the wrong characters.

I was sad to see Luke go, he is a much better character as the old Master than as the new trainee. I suspect we will see more of him in E9.

Also, I want a Crystal Critter as a pet. My son has a dog with basically the same body type and mannerisms. I may have to make him a costume. Liked them much better than the Porgs which were bad CGI to me, completely distracting. I'm with Chewbacca, looks like food.

The answer I've seen to this is that only the Cruiser had enough fuel in it to make the lightspeed jump, and they couldn't refuel the other ships while running from the first order fleet.

As I heard it, they all had the fuel for one more jump. Also, they only needed to jump a very short distance. Definitely less than 5 light seconds.

But if jumping into something like that was a viable option, why isn't it a more common strategy. Could have easily taken out either death star....

Yeah there's a Nerdist video covering this use of a warping ship as a kinetic weapon and it pretty much changes all balance of power in the SW universe. Essentially, near-lightspeed kinetic weapons would be more powerful than even the Death Star (perhaps that's why they were never used.) Or maybe Holdo's kamikaze warp attack was the first time anyone had done that in the SW uni, who knows.

Here's the vid.

Can't watch the vid right now because apparently there's someone who hasn't seen it yet...

But I always assumed that to get to lightspeed+ they would have to eliminate mass, or enter some other type of space (hyperspace) which prevents them from interacting with normal space. Arrrgh. It's a trap!

The key is to time it so you hit before critical speed to jump. So basically as I calculate it 87.9MPH.

Wait....

In addition to all the things mentioned:

- Gravity bombing in space --> Mmm no

- Leia's sudden competence in using the force --> how?

- Luke's explanation of force to Rey --> too Disney

- Total emasculation of the pilot dude and the lesb vibes between Leia and Holdo --> just to gain SJW popularity or what?

- MOST IMPORTANTLY: There used to be a rationality vs emotion struggle that defined light and dark side which made Star Wars a philosophically interesting watch for me. That is completely replaced by the classic good vs bad bullshit in this film. Rey I'd say is way too emotional to stay on the light side for long, but we'll see..

To sum up, it was good entertainment, but it wasnt good Star Wars for me and I am by no means a Star Wars geek, so I can definitely understand the frustration of hardcore fans.
