Meh. If you determine the style of driving by some mileage numbers you are probably driving "wrong" in the other direction.

As I said, I drive it like I stole it, not like I’m in a MPG competition. If I wanted that I would have bought a Prius. But I have been very impressed with the mileage without even trying. If running it to red line regularly is wrong in your eyes then so be it. 😉

Around where I live 25-26 is about the best I can do. When I spend a bit of time on longer rides 27-29 and if I can mix in some highway stretches, or at least not stop and go for 20-30 miles at a time, 30. All highway 32-34 if I just go gas station to gas station and they're both close to the entrance/exit. My overall long term for the 80k miles I've had the car is a bit over 28.

My daily commute is about 8 miles one way to work on back roads with a few stop signs and lights in the way. If I consume most of a tank this way, I get really shitty mileage on that tank. If I start getting on the highway or doing any longer drives that's when I start getting much better mileage.

Nah. I don't think it is wrong at all. No more then not wringing it out to red line every day is wrong. It is the whole "if you don't wring it out every day you should have bought a Prius" mentality that rubs me the wrong way.
The car has the ability to be driven like that if you have the opportunity and desire to do so but if you don't it doesn't mean you are driving "wrong" as has been stated.

27-31 driving it balls to the wall 80% of the time. i don't/rarely use 5th or 6th gear nor get in traffic/lights. 4th is good to the low triple digits.

Man, you guys are making me feel bad. I was getting about 28.5 for a while but for the last few months I've been getting about 25-26. But I have been driving a bit harder and using 5th a bit less in the city. I guess you could say now that I feel more comfortable with the MT I'm having more fun with the car.

Right now I have to drive my Tundra like a Prius just to get 16mpg if I'm lucky.

Cannot wait to get back in a twin and have "play time" while still getting >25mpg.

Recently installed ACE header to tailpipe mods with Delicious tune. Yesterday's fill-up revealed 18mpg city driving. As I recall, all of them were fun.

Well, I've got around 116,000 miles on mine averaging 33MPG, and I can honestly say they've all been fun.

Like @Tcoat, mine come at near highway speeds but mine are primarily backroads so there is a lot of sharp cornering, fast takeoffs, and general fooling around on nearly every mile.

Evidently, YMMV!
But my numbers weren't an average, just city. And city in a nasty cold snap where I always wait until kickdown to roll off, so I'm sending some gas up into the air. My take-away from your comment, tho, is I have a whole lot more miles ahead of me for "general fooling around!"

It's obviously not wrong. We, or at least I am just poking fun.

Not correct, just different.

Someone like tcoat who has a stock motor and drives tons of freeway miles is going to have very different results than a guy like me who only drives the car as a weekend toy, and installed a big blower under the hood that blows E85 thru the motor faster than Johnny Cash can fuck a goose.
