My TRD exhaust came in today, I have the current mods on hold to put into the car.
-Works Hi-Flow Filter -Perrin Inlet Hose -Rexpeed Carbon Fiber Dampers -TRD Catback -TRD Carbon Fiber Strut Brace -TRD Carbon Fiber Battery Tie-Down So basically when I get my car back here in up to a week or so (estimated time is the 29th, was told it could definitely be fixed sooner). So I had a cheap little Amazon dashcam that ran when the car was on, but a dashcam running all the time would've definitely helped my situation, is there such a device where, when the car is on, it charges it's own battery, and then runs off that while the car is off? |

That sucks about the damage
![]() I love the color of your 86. I am very fond of blue as it is my favorite color. Cool to see another owner here in the Seattle area. You should take some pictures of all the mods when you get the car back. I am curious what the TRD catback exhaust looks like and sounds like. |

So I got my car repaired, and I got my exhaust and intake stuff put on! I haven't noticed much of a power gain, but that's to be expected, but the car does sound nicer and I did notice an increase in mileage which is nice since this car is my daily.
![]() PSA: The TRD battery tie-down won't fit over the stock battery, it's too wide, however I've seriously considered a lighter battery anyways so then it would fit, I mean I probably should've read the damn description "Battery width must not exceed 5 1/8"." Sorry to hear about some jealous ass bitch damaging your personal property!
Glad to hear you like the TRD exhaust, it has a really nice growl to it, doesn't it?

It does man, it very much exceeded my expectations, I'd never gotten a good listen in person so I kinda winged it based on some YouTube videos, wow, the videos not only sound good, but they don't even do it justice, it sounds Godly in person! Best mod I've done to my car, it's something I always hear and feel, no matter where I am or how I'm driving it.

So I had some ft86club decals put on a few days ago, as shown below:
![]() However, the worst has happened yet again! Not the windshield this time, but I crashed my car. ![]() I hydroplaned on the highway while making a pass, spun into a guardrail back end first, but the real problem came when an oncoming car just barely clipped my front end, my back end was up against the guardrail and in the shoulder, but my front end was hanging out in traffic, and everyone stopped or avoided me except this one car, and that's what totaled the car. ![]() The red car hit me so hard that my car actually did a 180, so in this picture, my car is placed the opposite of how it was when I was hit, you can see the left front damage here: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() My insurance has already declared it a total loss, but I've expressed interest in buying the car back, but I'm still in the whole "exploring my options" phase, part of me wants to keep it, and considering I work at a Subaru dealership and have contacts among the technicians, it might be a good idea, and if I do fix it up and at least get it to the point where it's street legal, I now own the car, have no payments, and can touch up the rest as I go from there. That was a pretty bad crash, I felt like I got hit at 40-50 mph while still probably grinding against the guardrail at 20-30mph, but I'm ok and so was my passenger. |

So I bought the car back for essentially $1700. After telling the insurance company I wanted to buy the car back anyways, they simplified the process by, instead of paying my entire loan off then charging me for the buy back, they integrated the buy back into my loan. Initially the buy back was supposed to be $3k. They were going to pay the loan off and I was going to get about $1300 back, so that $1700 is what I would've had to throw in myself, so instead they just left that $1700 on the loan and I bought the car back that way.
A local shop near the Subaru dealership I work at is in the process of doing a tear down for $150, and if I need to I can get parts for below retail, almost at cost, from my dealership, since the cars share all body work but the front end. I plan on rebuilding the car entirely, although the airbag is way too pricey, the shop wants $4k to replace it and all the sensors that go with it, I told them not to do it and that I'd do it at my dealership, but truth be told I don't see myself affording that any time soon so I might run the car down a curtain airbag. Every body panel but the roof and trunk are damaged in some way, although this crash didn't damage the drivers door in any way, I had a little ding in it from when I swung my door into a fence I was parked close to at work (it was the only spot left when I got there ).I'm glad the trunk isn't damaged because of the wing I had installed, although I've since had second thoughts on my choice of wing anyways, kind of wished I went with the Sard LSR wing, but I do still intend to keep this as a modest "OEM+" style build, and the MY17 OEM-style wing is supposed to be functional yet low-key, providing just that right bit of stability and downforce without creating too much drag, as I've heard of a lot of people getting the larger wings suffering in mpg drastically. So as for my plan with the build going forward: Once the car is fixed, I plan on having new wheels and tires mounted and balanced for it before I even pick the car up, both front tires on the car are currently flat, and at least the left front wheel is warped and unusable. I was probably going to do wheels and tires next anyways, but it is definitely my #1 priority now, as the primary cause of my crash was most likely the stock tires. My rear tires were almost bald (I do drive the car pretty hard), but the front tires were fine and should've got me back going straight, the Primacys didn't do too well in heavy rainfall when I hit a puddle of water or oil. I did find out that salvage title cars do not retain their factory warranty if there was any left, which means I'm essentially free to do bigger mods and even forced induction, but I haven't really worked out when I'm going to go there and what kit I'd go with. My future mod list, in order starting from when I get my car back, goes something like this: 1. TSW Nurburgrings, matte black, 17x8 +35mm, on Michelin PSS (either 225/45ZR17 or 245/40ZR17, willing to take and actually looking for suggestions on tire and size choices, but that's where I'm at right now). 2. A batch of small mods, like front and rear tow hooks (because they would've come in handy for that gnarly crash, and you never know when a 20 year old might crash again), a K&N MY17 filter, which wasn't out when I was looking for a filter, so I might sell or trade the Works filter or just keep both. I might throw in that new TRD lumbar pillow too, I've heard a lot of good things about it despite how short a time it has been out so far. I'll also probably throw in a front plate relocation kit, since my front bumper that had a plate drilled in by the dealer is wrecked, I'm going to make sure that I do NOT have one drilled on the new bumper, and either run with no plate, or, if the police bug me about it too much, run a relocation kit when I have to. 3. A Tomei header + Drift Office tune 4. Eibach Pro-Street Coilovers, also taking advice and suggestions on my choice of coils as well. That's what I've got planned out so far, I still have no idea how long it'll take for me to get the car back, it could be several months, actually it's most likely it will be. I don't know where I want to go as far as forced induction, but probably with a turbocharger, I drive WRX's and STI's a lot at work and let me tell you, I am in love with the sound of a turbo. I've heard that superchargers are probably "better" for our car, but the sound is half the fun, it's the same way I was with my TRD exhaust, I fell in love with that noise, and I'm currently in love with the sound of a Subaru turbo. |
