Cool, but the fact that we like lightweight cars doesn't change the fact that the new Camaro will be/is considered a FR-S/BRZ "killer".

The Camaro has 9%+ more power per pound, is sold in the US, and will be what car buyers look at when shopping for coupes that cost less than 30K.

Who cares what the car weighs? More power is more power.

God damnit I didn't want to break character but now I have to. 9% more power per pound means absolutely nothing when you're on a road that isn't completely straight and you have an inferior chassis and suspension

Like you said! LOL!

Like I said: This will be what car buyers look at when shopping for coupes that cost less than 30K. It has more power, more room, is made in the USA, and will make the Avg buyer happier. Hence the "killer" moniker.

As a 4C owner and ex-86 owner, I have to agree with most people saying this is nothing like the 86 and won't be cross-shopped.

That being said, the Alfa 4C fit right in the middle of the Cayman and the Exige. The Alpine A110 fits right in the middle of the 4C and the Cayman.

It's significantly lighter than a Cayman, but significantly more focused on comfort than the 4C. That's not to say that the 4C isn't comfortable, because I feel it's significantly more comfortable (ride quality) than my stock 86 was... but Renault has certainly done more for the A110 than Alfa has bothered to do with the 4C interior.

Between the 4C and Cayman is a great place for a sports car to be. Although I drive the 4C about 50% of the time including to the office, I can see why many people would think it's too much of an occasion with no power steering, low ride height (mine is even lowered), and cabin noise levels. Those things make it fun for me, but I'm sure the average person would think it's terrible. That average person would probably be very happy with a Cayman which is an absolute luxury car in comparison, and probably happy enough in an A110.

The latest generation Camaro is actually quite good... I wouldn't say the chassis is better than the 86, but the 86 engine (stock) is a turd.

Compared to your 4c, I'm sure it is. But for most people who want to hoon a small car around some twisty roads, the power is more than reasonable. I'll literally never understand why people say this and I think about it frequently. When im blasting down some farm roads, I have never once wished the car had more power.

I'm not comparing it to the 4C at all, again, that's apples to oranges. I wasn't even referring to the amount of power. It's just not that sweet an engine.

The 86 torque dip is real, and absolutely noticeable. Now on the street, just driving around without paying attention to it, it's fine and the car is a lot of fun because of the chassis. But the ND Miata has 50 less hp and has so much more torque down low. Granted, it's a lot lighter, but there is no perceptible dip.

I understand that it's completely fixed by headers and a tune though. I've driven a modded BRZ and was really impressed by the difference.

Yeah i totally understand that and agree with a lot you're saying, maybe I misunderstood your other post. I just hate the "86 is slow" argument because while it's not a fast car, it's certainly not a slow car.

Most people; (my opinion) would buy the V8 if they could afford it. So, the 2.0 Camaro is a compromise, a compromise that has more HP and similar MPG to a twin.

I came from an S2000, so Power wasn't my main concern going to an FR-S. But, I do not expect the avg buyer to be like me. Only 100000 S2000's sold in entirety! That many Camaro's sold when the first transformers movie came out!

Numbers are finite; any sales increase will decrease other sales numbers somewhere. (especially for sports cars) The S2000 had dismal sales numbers, and was eventually "Killed" off. A car doesn't have to be faster or better to be a "killer."
