May have totaled my brz

I have possibly ended my journey of owning an 86. Yesterday on my way to work on a rainy cold day I was approaching the on ramp to get onto the highway going around 30 miles. Well a lady slammed on her brakes and I didn’t react quick enough so I slid into her rear bumper and pretty much destroyed my front end.

Her car had a couple scuff marks

This is my first accident that I was at fault in and the damage looks really bad from my persepective, but I’m wondering if I’m just overreacting? I know the value of my car will diminish and my insurance will skyrocket but I don’t really care I had no plans of selling this car any time soon that’s how much I enjoy it.

To be honest, that looks like its mostly cosmetic. Were any fluid leaking from your BRZ? Any visible damage in the engine bay?

Really? And no leaks! And only the intake was damaged. Also you’re right I basically slid underneath the rear bumper of her car.

I does look mostly like cosmetic damage but you can't know for sure that nothing is bent underneath all the plastic bits until it is taken appart and inspected. Best bet would be to get it to a body shop that your insurance recommends or just any reputable body shop for them to check it out and go from there.

Well, that's too damn bad ......

Does the engine run OK ..??; is the steering working OK .. ??

If so, your insurance may decide to fix it.

Lesson learned ....... NEVER "assume" that a woman in an SUV, on an on ramp, is going to continue to move forward .........

For sure! I’m planning on taking it to the insurance and moving into the next step of inspecting it via their recommended body shop

if that's "totalled" then you're in for a rude awakening when they fix it.

When my ex rear ended a minivan with her Lancer, the bill was close to 10k (after paint, parts, labour and taxes). She needed a new hood, fenders, headlight, radiator and a couple other things.

I wouldn't be surprised if thats over 10k, honestly. There is a lot of parts right there, lots of metalwork and paint, plus all the underside plastics. Sucks to see, sorry man.

Hood, bumper cover, headlights, brackets, intake and a handful of gaskets and fittings. Looks like went over the crash bar so that shouldn't be damaged, rad not leaking so that is OK and at least the passenger fender is not mangled. I am throwing in with the $7K to $8K tops crowd. What is not know is what body shops in the OP's area charge for labour. It isn't the same everyplace.

I was thinking the headlights and radiator(s) had been spared but yeah. It adds up quickly. Bummer.
