40 & 45 side wall is not a 5mm change. It's a percentage of aspect ratio..
An 18" tire in the same aspect ratio typicallg weighs more.
Unsprung weight is more because the tire is further away from the hub.
an extra inch of traction? Because of a side wall or diameter change? No. contact patch is the same..

Lots of factors.. You cannot simply sum it up. I do tbis on real race tracks all day lonv.
I'm just debating your comment of saying the handling will get worse, but I'm also not disclosing fully what else is going on with the car. It already has coilovers and will be corner balanced once I decide between the two sets of wheels I'm getting. After that adjustable control arms are the next step. So there's more in my area than just getting nice wheels, but I get your point and my generalization definitely didn't account for that.

As for the measurements, 5mm is based on height measurements done with mounted tires on 18x8 +40 wheels with 225/40/18 tires compared to stock tires. It's actually a gain of 5.95mm of height, and a gain of 2 lbs per wheel with the tire/wheel setup.
