Yep, back in the 60s, I was on assignment as an intelligence officer for the Army in Europe ....... Christine and I ......... oppps ...... that may still be classified ....... best I shut the hell up .......

One year for Xmas my mother bought four of them, one for her and one for me and my two brothers. I don't know what model it was. It was years ago. First the side brush motor failed under warranty. Then the main brush motor failed. Then the side brush motor failed a second time. Then a second main motor failure, then the battery would no longer hold a charge; new battery. Shortly after that, one of the front sensors failed and it would fall down the step down into my living room, and it couldn't find its way back to the charger. Then the main brush motor went a third time and in the garbage it went. I think I spent more time cleaning and fixing it than anything.


However, I do have to admit, the floors were much cleaner when it was working. I must have had a lemon, I think my mom's is still going.

I've been looking at homes in Boise to retire. I found the perfect home for the "car guy". It only has a 2 car garage. BUT, on one side it has a hydraulic lift that lowers down into the basement where there are 3 parking spots and a shop. OMG, I so want to drive my car into an underground man cave. Too cool!

Yep, that's it. The only problem is it is much bigger house than I want. But it is in a great location.

I'd have to avoid it because I would have to spend another huge amount of money to make it look like the Batcave.

We had 3 Roombas at one point (purchased for about $100 each on Woot when they were a regular occurrence there then). They worked great on our hardwood floors for picking up pet hair tumbleweeds from our Newfie. They were less effective on carpet but did an adequate job.
Initially the only issue we ever had were the batteries (NiCad). They would only last about 6 to 9 months before giving up the ghost and were stupid expensive. We replaced the batteries a couple of times and by then other parts started breaking so we lost them through attrition.

We do still have one (a Neato not a Roomba) that does a good job on the berber carpet in our basement. It still runs on schedule every night.
