Oil pan baffle plate
Is it necessary? The upper oil pan already has a baffle, and some ribs in it that do some good in this regard. Is an aftermarket baffle really necessary for auto x and track work? I’m about to install my very expensive engine, and just want to hear from people who know stuff!

Cosworth now do one, tested to not cause oil return issues that has been seen on the Moroso one.

The Moroso baffle is a mandatory requirement in the Australian Toyota 86 Race series. They are in the third year of the race series now.
See Appendix 1 of the homologation document below http://www.toyota.com.au/86/~/media/...egulations.pdf I've spoken to the engineer from the Technical Authority who designed and tested the race package. They used to get oil surge guring high G corners, now they don't. The 86 race series use a tyre that has less grip than a semi-slick (basically a high end street tyre) to limit costs. They aren't cornering on full-slicks: and still got oil surge before the baffle plate. |

Not much info on baffles for our cars but moroso seems to be the most used one. Contemplating on getting one too but many say we still don't need it

I track my car with Dunlop semi slicks and had oil pressure dropping on left hand corners.
It doesn't go to zero but it does drop. I don't remember what pressures, revs. If people say it's not needed, good luck to them. |

I see Greddy also makes an oil pan baffle, any comments on it?

If you are really worried about loss of oil pressure and are not under a rules constraint then an Accusump might be a better answer. If money is no object then dry sump.

Accusump. Easy, effective, and relatively cheap insurance when compared to a dry sump, and less wrenching to get in than to re-build the motor

No I use the RacerX oil pan. The baffles aren't the best, but what I think is helping is the extra quart/litre of capacity. Since install, the pressure drops less frequently to a lesser degree while cornering.
I think using a baffle plate is a good simple solution. More components = more to go wrong. Probably won't, but could. |

The RacerX pan does have some baffles which should help as well as the higher capacity.
I saw the comment before on return issues with the Moroso pan. I've only seen that mentioned in one thread, has that been an issue for other people? |
