From your pic, appears that piece of metal would still be inside top of the front cover. Not sure where you are stating it went in...center or outside holes ?

Possibly could come out with a tiny magnet OR strong vacuum applied to just where it went in.

Certainly you are being cautious in not going any further at this point.

If it were me and I could not figure it out myself, I'd go to a Subaru engine mechanic and talk with him on his lunch hour...see if he has any ideas, or would be willing to come to your home.

Understandably, you are trying to find answers without having to take the front cover off the engine.

Possibly it might come out through one of those oil sending unit holes below the oil filter...possibly the upper hole...

Edit: Sorry I misunderstood....Thought that piece of oil filter wrench went into oil filter area. What you mean is that it went into oil fill area...now I understand.

Someone who knows Subaru engines would know better than I, if those tin covers over front of cams can be removed for access to the area you now need to get to...me assuming you might be able to fish it out from near bottom of front cover.

it was sitting on what appeared to be the top of the cam but i dropped it with my plyers and it tinked all the way down. im really tempted to try and flush it out with oil but dont want to make it worse

C.Quartzed the 57CR's. Procedure was straight forward, and pretty easy since the wheels are 5 spoke. I still have about 75% of the bottle left, so I'll probably do my TC105N's before the summer.

I got under the rear end of my vehicle for the first time tonight, in hopes of removing the stock catback to replace it with the CSG x MXP one. To my surprise, there was a Magnaflow catback already on the car. I had no idea. I've owned the car for a year now.

Installed this. Yes there is a screw missing. Grimmspeed decided not to thread that hole so I have to find a tap and fix it later. Other than that took like 20 minutes to swap in.
