I could be wrong but it seems that cutting fuel would elevate combustion temps and open the door to detonation.
Yes oft overboost is complete fuel cut based on map pressure reading. Their is a hysterusis and yes its complete feul cut so very abrupt but will save engine. Complete fuel cut is ok, its an extended lean condition that is a big problem.

Yes you could adjustt the waste gate duty cycle electronicly to adjust boost but you would be obly able to limit boost to the waste gate spring pressure. Ie the boost control can be increased above the waste gate spring pressure but not below.

Also overboost protection is mainly their to guard against a wastegate failure or malfunction causing too high boost, so you want an independant system as a failsafe.

Ecutek guys will just use a custom maps to do similar process but you can get more adjustability and fancy

Oh cool. Good to know.

Besides tuning..... is the OFT, i guess, good enough to make accurate readings on AFR, Boost, Oil pressure through 3 bar map sensor for JDL kit? or am I better of getting getting wideband (aem) or other gauges?

May be a little bit of thread jack but its slightly related

OFT will read/log data from the standard sensors available on car as good as anything else.

The car doesn't come with an oil pressure sensor so you need to provide your own . (its only a simple switch at about 2 psi to light the dash light should read replace engine light)

car only has oil temp sensor

the stock o2 sensor can be recalibrated to read richer afr quite successfully down to about 10.5

If you want to implement automatic failsafes in tune for oil pressure loss and afr then you will likely need ecutek.

oft only has overboost cut based of map sensor.

different map sensor just need to be scaled in tune can do that with all tune systems

I am buying an Ecutek tuning bundle from my tuner...probably today

So Im not actually tuning the kit through OFT. I have been planning on selling the tablet but then I thought about all the readings the it makes, so I'm just seeing whats the better option as far as boost / afr / oil temp/ press

oft would read boost afr and oil temp, but pressure no as it would be external sender.

you would probably be better selling tablet and buying the ecutek blutooth dongle then using the ecutek android or apple app to monitor ecu it can be set up with custom dash gauges.

tuner could intergrate oil pressure sender and failsafe cut in ecutek custom maps.

http://www.ecutek.com/ecu-connect

they could feed oil pressure signal into ecu then you could use it for failsafe and display in blutooth app
