So, on long patrols, one could wear combat boots and have your toes half frozen off ...... or ...... wear the "Mickey mouse" boots and have toasty feet, but with blisters and blood in the bottom of the boots ........ ![]() humfrz |

Have too many trips already planned at the moment though. Mexico in February, Nashville in May and a maybe last minute trip between Christmas and New year's. |

Well, since it's a slow day on the forum ....... I'll tell a back-in-the-day Thanksgiving day story. Actually it's four stories compressed into one.
Back in the 70s and 80s, I was assigned the duty of attending the Brighten Conference ....for four years in a row. Now the Brighten Conference was an international scientific conference held in Brighten, England ....... over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend. Leave it up to the English to schedule THAT date! So, you all have heard about how bad the English food is ...... I'm here to attest to that ...... especially at thanksgiving time. It made trips up to Scotland to eat haggis, seem like a treat. Well, anyway, I would be assigned to give a scientific paper in general session. My boss would instruct me to give the paper and defer any questions to be addressed in the breakout session ........ and then NOT to attend the breakout session ...... ![]() Brighton is on the southern coast of England and is quite the summer playground. However, in the winter, it's cold, dark and wet. Their "beach" is nothing but a bunch of small rocks that will never make it to sand ...... ![]() On the brighter side, one year I took mrs humfrz along. We stayed in Gatwick and during the day, she would take the train north to London and sight see and I would take the train south to Brighten and attend the conference. Those were different Thanksgivings for sure. THE END humfrz |

I suck at the beer conversation since I like Bud Light and such.

Do yourself a favour, next time you're at the LCBO, head to where you can buy singles, and buy a few that have labels that you like. Try one or two before you're going to sip on a plain Jane Keith's and see if you like it. Go from there.
Pro tip: If you're a coffee kinda guy, try a stout or a porter. Lots of them are coffee flavoured, and it's an easy transition to drinking beer. Also, I prefer "snob" over connoisseur. Edit: You're in Toronto, correct? Plenty of places to go for damn good beer there. My girlfriend and I have become absolutely enamoured with Bellwoods Brewery. They have two locations, one in the distillery district on Ossington, but since it's about an hour to get there from Scarborough (via TTC, yay Kennedy Station!), we only head there if we'll be sitting around drinking for more than a few hours. Their bottle shop, which is in North York, is an extremely frustrating 25ish minute jaunt down the 401, but is very worth it. |
