I still can't get past the toothless gum line. It has succeeded in making a front license plate a blessing though - I'll bet plate relocation kit sales have plummeted!

Seriously though, I do like the redesign, it's just the bumper bar that hurts it. I wish they'd found a way to leave it better hidden by the egg crate grill like the older version.

The 86 front end is a good maturation of the design language that has yet to carry through to the rest of the car. That is to say, the FR-S front end is a bit more "tuner or aggressive" to match its intentions as a youthful car, while the 86 design is more sporty and indistinct to broaden its appeal.

I think you can see how designers want to evolve the look of the car, but that can't happen until a complete refresh.

The FR-S front end better matches the existing lines of the sheet metal. You can draw lines starting from the base of the front lip, up and over the top of the car, and down the sides. In the 86, you have a bumper that doesn't go anywhere, making it seem disconnected from the rest of the car.

I'd argue the BRZ has had the same issue. Originally I preferred the BRZ front clip, which remains true, but over time I've come to recognize it has the same issue as the 86.

Evidence that the FR-S was better:

Good (looks like a baby Mclaren)

Still good.

Okay, but not great. Nothing matches. If you buy it in black or grey you are probably okay.

The FR-S looks mostly good in all colors.

New one has more fake grille area for same actual opening. No need; less clean looking. Plus I think directionals should be separate from headlamps.

Wheels look better on the '17 though.

As for your comment about cars I've driven and owned I've owned more cars than you will ever own in your life. I've owned 4 of the FR-S models and a total of 52 Toyota/Lexus/Scion cars not counting the other brands.
A supra? you mean that hunk of junk everyone seems to think is an amazing car, when in reality it's really no better than a base Celica, and PLS, choosing a yellow car immediately renders your opinion of good taste null and void. Yellow is an atrocity and there is almost nothing worse besides lime green and hot pink; you must be colour blind and also think that complimentary colours actually look good together.

The fact now that you have to lie about owning 52 cars now is comical, if true though, they must've all been corolla's or tercels bought for 500$ a piece, with the salary of a lowly McDonalds peon (no offense to anyone who works at McDonalds, I hear they treat their employees quite well actually).

You remind me of the guy who came on here talking about how he when to walmart, bought a recycling box, broke it down in to pieces then spray painted it and super glued it to his car, then had the audacity to call it scientifically proven canard design (his car was red for those who may not remember).

To simplify this even more.
The original design of the FRS/86 bumper more or less fit the rest of the Toyota lineup designs of 2010 when it was finalized. They had a simple flowing design with basic fog lights/fake vents in the corners

In 2017 they all went to a bolder design. It wasn't just the 86 that changed. It was the whole line up. The result is a front bumper that looks like it was just slapped on at random instead of following the lines of the rest of the body.

You mean to tell me that those crappy fake side vent 86 garnish, when the car wasn't even named an 86 in the states and Canada looks okay to you? "Baby McLaren" WHAT???? cheap side vent, puny rear exhaust, micro sized width of tires. What kind of McLarens are you looking at? junkyard models?

Girl you need to see an eye doctor
