My regiment used to have a Sierra Hybrid. That thing sketched me out when the engine would cut out. Way happier driving a Silverado that switches from V8 to V4 when you're just cruising

We have nice QM guys.

At least in the artillery. Toilet paper is actually a crucial part of maintaining a 105mm howitzer, since it seems that TP rolls are about the only thing that cleans the bore effectively.

Though, after 4 or 5 days of eating IMPs, there was nothing like seeing your BSM (with a greener than green OCDT or 2LT) walking up to your gun with a carton of smokes in his hand, and the young officer carrying a backpack full of Chef Boyardee or Campbell's Chunky soup.

As long as it wasn't the patrol pack (or snack pack, or whatever). Jerky or pepperettes and a bunch of sugary candy stuff. On my PLQ, we lived off of those for 2 or 3 days for part of our defensive ex and it was terrible.
I'm glad I didn't have to eat that dehydrated crap ........

Those is the IRPs that we had up to about 1980 when we started getting the IMPs on any sort of regular basis. Other than the canned bacon you got in the IRP I preferred the dehydrated stuff.
Now, being a service support truck driver I rarely had to eat ration packs at all since I was usually near the field kitchen. The food at the kitchen was great and we dropped the crappy stuff off to the infantry and artillery.

......and, I believe THAT .....

Reminds me of a back-in-the-army-day story ........

It was a cold, dark, rainy German night, when I moved my unit back into Coleman Barracks, after being in the field for 30 days. We had missed out on the last two chow deliveries from the field kitchen ....... because they said we were moving too fast .......

Since when can't a deuce and a half truck catch up to an armored column .....

Anyway we clanked into Coleman about 2300 hours, the troops were tired, wet and HUNGRY!

I woke up the company mess sergeant (back at Coleman) and ordered him to wake up his cooks, open up the mess hall and feed my troops.

He must have been still drunk, because he tried to tell me that the mess hall wouldn't open till 0600 the next morning.

I told him that I had two options to feed my troops ....... either he wakes up his mess personnel and cooks us a meal ........ or my troops were going to break into HIS mess hall and cook up our own meals ....... and we don't clean up ........

He "decided" that his people would fix us a meal ........

Well the truth of the matter is since my Army time was mostly on air bases with fancy dinning halls and my Navy time consisted in eating at officers messes or wardrooms with waiters, crystal cups and real silverware many of the best meals I ever had were in the military.

If it was at least a beef stew I'll give it a pass. Jimmies rustled if it's some noodle casserole.

Actually, I'll pretty much eat anything. I'm easy to feed.
