I have a friend of mine who owns a 03 V6/automatic convertible when it was brand new and 9 years later he never had a serious problem with one.

Does not apply to size and weight. Actually that's not what I said, but anyhow, it's all good man. |

For everyone that doesn't think the BRZ should be cross shopped with the Mustang, I'm doing it right now. I was considering the GT-R, Mustang, and BRZ. I purchased the BRZ because I wanted a small and nimble lightweight car. I've read through all the pages of this thread and there are certain traits of these two cars that you can't quite put into numbers: Personality. I have almost 3,000 miles on my BRZ already, and even with the crappy tires on the back, the car lacks drama to me. There isn't much excitement in daily driving. If you don't care to keep your drivers license and there's no traffic around, the BRZ can be fun. But in the everyday run to the grocery store, the BRZ has no soul. I could be driving a manual Impreza and get about the same experience. This is why I'm still considering getting a Mustang. It's a very theatrical car. Add on the fact that I love retro stuff and the Mustang is really tempting.
I have test driven two Mustangs before, a 2007 and a 2008 Bullitt, I liked them, but back then the interiors were crap and the car felt really big, which I wasn't a fan of. I plan to go drive a 2013 soon since I know the interiors are much nicer now and I think I could get over the size of the car.

So, premature failure in any automotive part is always the users fault? In a sense then, we should not take "performance" cars through any hard driving, cause if a part breaks or wears out faster than expected it's just our fault and the build quality had nothing to do with it? Is that what I'm understanding? I can understand absolute blatant disregard for the vehicle. But to blanket it as if everyone who has an issue is just simply irresponsible, I can't agree with that. |

Actually, it does.
Gotta go test drive a boat to see what you think. With advances in suspension and braking, who knows what impression you may come away with. I'm not saying that you personally have to consider every car under the sun. I just don't think people should blind themselves to all of their options. The FRS and Mustang GT are comparable vehicles. I can think of several reasons why I'd have either one over the other. |

Maybe if I was blind.
Like someone mentioned above, some things that make sense to you, might not make sense to someone else. I don't HAVE to test drive a car to visually look at it and decide I think it's to big. Already said the Mustang handled great and does more than just straight line (this being in a modded suspension wise Mustang GT on a track). That don't make me some how decide that it's not big still. Again, visual man... |

I'm talking about the feeling or impression of how the car drives.
That's not something that you can just look at a car's size and weight and thus determine. You can make assumptions. But whatever, we get it, you're close-minded and proud of it. Live in your own world where people don't cross-shop Mustang GT's with BRZ's. |

Did I mention feeling or impression? I already expressed how I thought it drove and handled. Said it was impressive for what they can do now. Does not have anything to do with the fact I think it's a big car. Closed-minded? There is that "my method is better than your's" attitude again. Because I like certain features....really? Whatever you want to call it to make you feel better. I was still editing when you quoted above... |

And your closed minded comments are like the equivalent of a fat girl calling a guy "shallow" because he only dates skinny chicks. It's just a persons preference at the end of the day. Shouldn't get so worked up about it.

To the "too big" argument going on, I'm with Shado...there's plenty of cross-shopping between the BRZ and a number of other cars, Mustang included. I was always the kind of guy who considered the S2000 to be a fantastic car, but perhaps a bit too porky for my application. I got behind the wheel of the new 5.0, and it turns out to be a helluva car. No doubt that it is long and heavy, and a nightmare to drive on most autoX course, but it is an absolute beast of a driver's car. The balance is fantastic, and the car is setup to use all four tires in a steady state condition...moreso than even the FRS, which will readily push. Getting behind the wheel of one may or may not change your mind, but there is no debate that it can. Up to you whether it is worth your time to check before buying. |
