Two different animals. Again, don't see someone who want's a light nimble car with two seats to cross shop with a large V8 muscle car. Do the Miata forms have many people who were looking for a Mustang? The Miata has none of the characteristics of a Mustang and vice versa. Again, it will be funny though should the Twins spark the rebirth of certain classic iconic cars, and then they get compared to a Mustang and the common talk will be that they are not the same as the Mustang. |

Miata is in the same class as the Mustang GT? That would be news to me. Are you making a judgement of class simply based on pricing? |

According to most consumer sites, insurance companies, etc, the two would both be under the same category. |

So powerplants play no part in the cars class? All 4bangers compete with V6, V8 as long as they cost relatively the same and have the same drive wheels? |

The cars are different, but that doesn't mean they're never cross-shopped. Just because you believe everything you research on the internet and close your mind to all alternatives, doesn't mean everyone's like you, and thank god for that.

Believe everything I research on the internet and close mind to all alternatives? BHAHAHHAHAA!!! I couldn't help but laugh. And you have figured that out by a couple of post on the internet huh? Good one man, you got me. On a "real" note. I see a review, I go test drive it, and then I decide if I want it or not. I don't need a test drive to know I don't want a 2 seater Convertible Miata. Don't need a test drive to know I don't want a large car like a Camaro. It's not rocket science. That requires no research whatsoever to conclude upon. Do I need to go kiss a fat chic to figure out she's not my type? What I would need to test drive would be something like a GC (last gen) to know if I don't like it. The latest gen is to ugly for me to ever want to buy it, don't need a test drive to figure that part out either. |

You didn't want one because of power in the past. I don't want one because of size today. Yet you seem to look down upon that, nor understand how I don't even bother to go test them. For you it was power, for me it was size, but it seems you think your buying decision of the past makes more sense than my buying decisions on them today. If the Mustang was smaller and more nimble than I would be looking at it, just like you are able to check them out because now you feel they have enough power. I've been in the Mustang GT and on the race track nonetheless. It puts you in the seat very well. Very impressive from where they use to come from (straight line only). You would be incorrect to state it is simple conclusion based on no experience. Granted the FR-S is a smiggen closer to a GT than a Miata is, I was simply fishing trying to figure out where you guys draw the line, seeing as how a Miata is the same price also, yet imo...a completely different animal, completely different car and has no attribute that can even be closely compared to a V8 GT. I don't put every 4banger in the same class as a V6/V8 when they have the same drive wheels and price range like some seem to here. I take into account the power plant. |

And that's all that this boils down to. All I've been saying from the beginning is that people should test drive everything, try it all out, and yes, compare everything. There is nothing wrong with comparing a Dodge Challenger, a Mazda Miata, and a VW GTI. I don't see a point in drawing some arbitrary line in the sand of what is or isn't ok to compare. It is close-minded. And here you're even saying you've driven a Mustang and made the determination that it wasn't for you. Just because you feel that way, does not imply that other people have to feel the same as you, only because you made your decision. |

I think an important (and underlooked) consideration is reliability and depreciation.
After seeing some of the problems my friends have had with Mustangs, I don't know that I would ever consider buying one. |
