I drove one at the First86 Long Beach event when they were being first introduced. We had the opportunity to drive this while waiting to drive the 86.

It wasn't bad, but it was definitely underpowered. (Maybe they had us drive this first to throw off our impression of the 86's power?) I thought the ride was decent, and it had good size on the inside. I'd buy it before I bought a smart, but that's about all I would have purchased it before...well unless it came fully optioned like this one...

I was going to be an early adopter on the US smart. Had the original $99 deposit down and everything when they were first coming to the US. In the end, I just didn't like it when I test drove it. Can't really point my finger at any one thing, it just didn't do it for me. I think it was just too small and too underpowered for my taste.

Is that not the point though?

Not if it means you will be putting yourself as "that guy" when merging on the Interstate during Atlanta rush hour traffic. I think the later model years had some improvements in those areas but the first US model year couldn't get out of its own way.

By underpowered I don't mean "didn't have 400HP" I mean it wasn't adequately powered to push itself down the highway. The size would not have mattered if the power was correct but it wasn't so it felt like a death trap.

Kind of expected this when I clicked. "Wait, what other good models did Scion make?" Still wished the FR-S was a Toyota back when I bought mine, but at the end of the day it's just a badge. Still a Toyobaru, got bigger problems in my life, such as what protein should I get in my Burrito tonight.

I wouldn't buy either one to leave as is, but the iQ is FWD, which in my estimation makes it a bigger shitbox than the RWD Smart shitbox.

I would, however, buy a Smart with a blown engine if the price were right. Because then it would get a motorcycle engine swap to make it hilarious.

Put that same motorcycle engine in the iQ, and it's still FWD, which wouldn't be hilarious at all. It would just be sad.

Yea, that would have made a huge difference without really impacting it's "mission". Personally I sort of like this one though...
