Exhaust Research question

Hi, I have a 2017 86. I just bought a Open Flash Tablet and I am waiting for it to come in. The only other mods I may do are a drop in air filter and a Header. Which non catted header UEL would give it the best sound but not make it loud. I guess in other words I want to enhance the boxer rumble but not be loud. Any tips ?? I am plan to keep everything else stock behind the header if I do get one. Thanks for any tips.

Any catless header will be louder than a catted, and a aftermarket catted header will still be louder than stock. The difference isn’t much, and with a stock exhaust nobody will likely know it didn’t come that way from the factory. If you’re using an OFT I’d recommend using their UEL header, otherwise I’d recommend JDL.

You should consider getting a new overpipe as well. Relative to the OFT and headers it doesn't cost much. You'll be in the area of the overpipe as well taking out the headers. Stock overpipe is definitely one of the worst parts of the exhaust imo, maybe even the worst given how complicated it is to design headers

All catless headers are around the same volume because they are essentially pipes with bends. It's like asking which straight pipe is louder/quieter, they're all going to be about the same volume if they're the same diameter.

I don't think you're going to get much gains out of an overpipe on an NA setup. Really only useful on a boosted setup.

Can we talk more about the necessity of the overpipe? I just snagged an OFH/OFT and a TRD cat-back. Not sure if I want to grab an overpipe before I go through with the install.

largely because u have to unbolt one side (if not both) to get the header off. a/m units are likely less restrictive for flow. top speed sells the piece for 100 bux vs others for 300+.

The CSG Touring 86, with a catless setup, will be quiter than a TRD or Perrin unresonated on an otherwise stock car.

I have this exhaust and if keeping the car quiet is a priority, then it’s a 10/10 hands down.

I can wholeheartedly reccomend the JDL one though. I have their headers and they have some quality welds, at least to my untrained eye they looked better than the HKS ones on their front pipe

Generally you get what you pay for
