60k service time!

I'm sad that getting my car serviced has to be a research project, but the Toyota dealerships in my area do not offer a 60k service matches up with suggested maintenance on my 2013.

I'm mostly doing highway driving - about 40 miles round trip from home to work. Nothing upgraded in the car (besides adding an arm rest) and I have only done tire rotations and oil changes up until now. I'm not the kind of person who will do any maintenance myself (I'm sure you are judging me and that's fine).

Here are the suggestions from the Scion manual:

- engine coolant
- brake fluid
- auto transmission fluid
- air & cabin air filters (I have a reusable K&N filters so I'll rinse them)
- oil change (I'm over on mileage so I need to get it done)
- tire rotation (I can do this for free @ discount tire)
- spark plugs (really? already?)

Since I will need to piece together my own 60k package, want to make sure I didn't miss anything.

The only interesting thing that the dealership's suggested 60k had was this:

- lubricate chassis & boots

Thoughts?

Lol, did you buy it from a ford dealership, the mind boggles.

You should be able to get the 60k service done at a Subaru dealer.

Your stock coolant is good for well over 100,000 miles, provided you use the same long-life coolant when topping it off

Have you done the rear differential yet?

I would have the brake service, oil change, tranny fluid change (if MT I would skip that) and coolent check done.
I would clean or change the filters myself (as you said) and get the free rotation.
With the nature of your driving I would hold off on the plugs for a bit. I am at 100K on mine with zero signs of any issue.

I am not judging anybody for not doing their own maintenance (although the last time somebody judged me for not doing it I ended up temp banned for a day so I hope nobody starts in on you for it)

+1 no reason not to do all of that stuff with the exceptions you listed, can't think of anything else.

imho cabin air filter is really underrated, it's the difference between your car blowing clean fresh air in your face or dusty dirty air when the car starts getting up there in age/mileage

I did the spark plugs at 60k and was glad I did, but if the car is primarily just driven around town I think you probably won't notice pushing the spark plug change later, whatever the dealer says about spark plug change now, I would be surprised if they charged you much less than $300 and some quotes have been $500+ for JUST spark plug change.

I was happy to DIY my spark plugs, but if I was facing a several hundred dollar bill, wasn't driving the car terribly hard or competitively, and I planned on selling it at some point down the road then I'd probably defer it too.

Edit: And as above coolant is 11 year replacement, ~137k miles, 75k miles after that, just inspection and top off at ~30k mile intervals, should check when you check the oil though

I am getting my plugs done at the end of the month so it will be around 110K or so. My TOB is starting to take on some very banshee like qualities so I can save some money by having it done when they have to lift the engine to do the plugs anyway.
I will ask them to give me the plugs so we can see just how they look after 98% highway driving for 3 years.

But that's probably not the FR-S price; just a "regular" sedan.

I bet good money they don't honor that price. Each spark plug for an FR-S is ~$20 and the service manual says you need to lift the engine. Makes sense when each spark plug is <$10 and it takes all of 15 minutes to change them with hand tools, but a shop should charge at least 1 hour of labor plus retail parts cost which would be $200. Took me ~4 hours in my garage but I'm an amateur.

If they do charge the lower price ask to get your original spark plugs back, a shady dealership might charge and not do the work...

I will ask them to give me the plugs so we can see just how they look after 98% highway driving for 3 years.
I very much look forward to what you think.
