Modifry Shift Beeper for the Twins

Has anyone installed a Modifry shift beeper on their Twin?

http://www.modifry.com/index.php?rou...6revisions.htm

I had this on my S2ks and plan on installing on my STi/FRS. Other Subaru owners (i.e. GD) have tapped into the green tach wire behind the cluster, 12v power, & ground. Finding a 12v & ground is easy enough on the Twins, but which wire can I tap for the tach signal?

You know the car comes stock with a shift beeper option that can be activated right? Just wanted to ask before you start tapping wires.

"This module makes it even easier to rev-it-to-the-red without short-shifting or getting slammed by the factory rev-limiter. It provides 3 warning beeps prior to your shift point so you can pace your shift, regardless of which gear you are in. No more looking at the tach and you get more warning than using a simple shift light."

OK so now I know I am old since I am totally flabbergasted that there is even a need for such a device much less that people will pay $80 for it.

The very first thing I do when teaching somebody to drive MT is tape over the tach so that they are not trying to shift at gauged rev points.

Why not listen to exhaust/engine noise?

Many a manual transmission car I have owned/driven didn't even have a tach. tbh I have no idea what the redline was/is on my old accent.

Yep. Out of about 20 I have had only the last 4 have had one. Mind you several were three speeds so a tach would be just silly.

I dunno about you guys but driving on a race track with a helmet on, with the windows down, does not give you the luxury of listening to the oem beeps. Hell, that's why F1 has beep indicators on their earpieces...
That being said, I actually made my own louder shift buzzer just for this reason.

Now I agree that if this is used on the street, it's hella annoying... Ask my wife.

Sorry OP, I'm not sure where the tach wire is located or whether the car even has one. I got mine through canbus.

It's so that you are consistent with your shifts while looking ahead at the track. It will give you a three beep warning before your assigned shift point.

Here's my 06 s2k with the Modifry shift beeper.

I can't hear the OEM shift beeper on my FR-S or STi even with an OEM exhaust.

Actually this is exactly what it's for.. so you don't ever have to look down on your tach.

Never need to anyway. Why would I need to see the numbers? I don't drive by gauges.
