I couldn't afford the upkeep/modding on a AE86 to fufill my tofu-delivering fantasies.

Joking aside, I didn't like the new Miata styling and I also didn't want to deal with a convertible (s2000). I also didn't care for a more powerful and heavy car (370z, Mustang), so the BRZ/86 was the best choice.

Because Scion/Toyota doesn't come in World Rally Blue. Plus I was deprived from a good driving experience with my Prius. Quite the change.

I wanted a toy car that would double as my new daily driver. My Nissan Titan is our primary tow vehicle, and with 140k miles, we decided we needed to slow down the miles.

I almost bought a current gen Mustang GT vert, but then decided that it wouldn't be much fun having all that power, and having to drive normal roads with it.

The adage its more fun to drive a slow car fast, then a fast car slow is one of the main reasons I bought my BRZ. Plus this driver needs some serious mods, the car is plenty capable, just need to upgrade the brains of the driver.

all other cars are ugly blobs of crap. And they are simple sedans with worked up engines and a "sporty feel".

So absolute crap looking such as BMW or WRX or Audi, with no concept of center of gravity and control, plus the car is by subaru and it is 95% parts origination and 100% assembled in Japan.

none of the other subarus or toyotas are that japanese or assembled there much at all. Also, it is quite cheap and will probably last a really long time as it is a simple car in reality. I was going to go for a WRX, but then Tcoat swayed me to realize that all of those cars are just fast sedans. That is boring and ugly too. Think of how ugly new cars today are. All blobs of ill defined cheap looks. pay 100,000 for a cheap blob of a car with a marketed image.

It's dead sexy. I fit in it. I love the way it handles and it's a willing partner in almost anything I want to do. What else would you want in a girlfriend?

For me (in rough order of importance);
I wanted a FUN car.
Rear wheel drive.
Amazing handling and light weight.
Affordability - & also therefore a good deal compared to similar priced cars at the time.
Good looks (subjective of course).
Boxer motor (personally my first boxer engined vehicle and gotta say I kinda like it. More character than most 'normal' cars).

And then I started reading about the mods and various options of this car, and that has just added to the fun and my enjoyment of the car. I've learned more mechanical stuff from this car than any other (including bikes) I've owned.

Chose my BRZ because I wanted the Limited with keyless entry and push to start. Almost bought the 2016 limited, but when I heard news and saw pictures of the 2017 with PP. It was a no brainer.

Loved the pre facelift FRS, post facelift BRZ wins hands down. Better looking taillights without having to buy aftermarket.

Performance package was definitely the biggest selling point. Get two mods done from factory with warranty. Yup done deal.

Miata and s2k were in the running. I opted out of the s2k because finding a clean AP2 was close to impossible, plus I wanted a more modern platform. Opted out of the miata because I wanted rear seats for the dogs and potential passengers.

Everything about this car was ticking all the boxes for me. Plus I've been drooling over it since 2012.

I'm just a couple more engine supporting mods, tires, a supercharger, and a android head unit away from being completely satisfied with my BRZ. Going to hold off on the header and exhaust because the cabin is plenty dramatic enough for me right now. Don't feel like plugging the sound tube

Japanese, Light, small, LSD, 6MT, looks good, fairly good technical knowledge base on the forums and just happens to be cheap.

These days the options for a car with a manual tranny are very limited. Having a mechanical LSD is almost completely unheard of unless you go with a Mustang/Camaro or spend a bunch of money on a 911 or go with a BMW M car. People just don't understand the importance of an LSD.

I've been interested in the FRS from the day it was announced. Once I saw them on the road I really liked the way they looked (other than the ugly tail lights). Recently I spun a rod bearing on my IS300 (5MT/LSD) and at 40 years old I sort of lack the motivation to jump right on an engine rebuild so a few weeks ago I picked up an FRS. I will rebuild the IS300 when I find some time. In the meantime I am loving this FRS!

I like the low slung engine but can't stand the Subi sound. I'd say that is the main thing I dislike.

I was bored of my Pontiac sedan (which was my first car) and steadily getting more into cars. My best friend had a Celica and now an MR2 and it's always a blast.

I was idly looking at s2000 listings but couldn't find anything that wasn't slammed or tuboed by some kid. I'd been following this car for a while and thought it looked good but hadn't really paid a ton of attention....

My old car started leaking oil. I almost bought a Mk5 Golf but then realized I had a budget a bit larger than that so decided to expand my horizons. Plus, the BRZ is way sexier. I found this forum, read up on the specs and decided I wanted the pure driving experience that the car offers.

I went BRZ because I think the 86 boxer badges on the fender are tacky (sorry) and I wanted the upgraded interior.

You are not alone on any of those points! I knew I wanted something sporty before I got old and needed that minivan. Cost was the number one thing, didn't want to spend over 30k on a new car, was only going new because I knew a head of time I would never be selling. Styling, at least for me, ruled out any of the hatchbacks, that left sedans and sport coupes. Mpg was somewhat of a factor to me when I was shopping around, so it ruled out a few such as the wrx or the genesis. Test driving a mustang lead me to believe that size does matter a lot, did not want something too heavy, ruling out most of the muscle cars. So that left me with a few options: 86, civic si, and the Miata. Oddly enough I went with a half measure and went with the 86. With the Miata I just couldn't bring myself to say I would never need the back seats, the trunk space, or the even general space inside the car. The SI I couldn't bring myself to buy one, and this was a combination of styling and things that came up during the test drive. The bonus for me was the rarity of these cars. Sure you will see them every now and then but its unique considering other sports cars, and considering all cars.

I Googled "rear-drive naturally-aspirated 4 cylinder sport coupe" and there it was.
