Sears and Laguna are my favorites. I find Sears to be more technically challenging...two blind hills back to back is quite a trip!

I love Laguna for the nostalgia though, and it's right down the road...literally. Sears requires me to drive through the Bay Area which I'd much rather not. Quite the trek for us Monterey folk.

That's why I was looking this morning, still 139 registered for 100 spots so... not likely.
Pretty sure you needed to sign up within that 5 mins or so... lol

I am most likely driving the e36, hoping my bro can get the diff in for the Z. He just needs to install and break it in...

My teammate who has an M2 is trying to get me to go to this: http://ggcbmwcca.org/event/2017/thun...school-3-mile/

It's pretty expensive but from what I've seen you guys say, BMWCCA seems good?

I'm trying to figure out if I'm busy that weekend already, though. I feel like I might be.

imo if you haven't taken the plunge yet, eat the cost and do it with a buddy that's dragging you out now. Yeah $700 is rough, but it's for 2 days, at $350/day that's not the worst deal (go look up prices for HPDE's on COTA, bonkers), Thunder Hill is a great track, and instruction is the difference between riding around all day or seeing a marked improvement in your driving.

You can find cheaper track days later, you'll figure out what you're paying a premium for (fewer cars on track, instructors that have 1:1 time with you most of the day, organizers that care about a safe welcoming environment, etc.) and whether or not it's worth it to you personally. I've done two ~$170 track days, I don't plan on doing any more, but the track days that were $350+ were excellently run with high quality instructors. I don't have first hand experience other than knowing there's some crossover between BMW autox and track guys around here.

Far too many go spend tens of thousands of dollars on sports cars and never do more than a couple skids on an on ramp or back road. Take the chance to go up with a buddy and do it once, if you're hooked start looking into other more moderately priced options like NCRC or Trackmasters. And some people love the cheap track days some groups put on.

No but the instructors are all nationals champ! I think you can request certain instructors, too.

Yeah it seems like opinion goes two ways, "it's awesome!" or "that's a lot of money"

But doing the math, better $/run than some SCCA events :P

And with any decent coach in the passenger seat I'll probably get more out of it than faffing around on course the rest of the year will get me.

Hmmm.. If there are cheaper but solid options for a beginner then I'd probably prefer that. TBH this is a coworker who likes to spend lots of money and I usually am the more frugal of the two of us LOL. I could afford it, but would rather find a more economical option if there is one.

idk I'm of the opinion that it's worth spending more money on a first track day to get a decent instructor in you passenger seat shouting at you, I can pontificate on PM, but the 86Cup runs with NCRC up here and there are many satisfied customers, much more reasonable prices than BMW club. Not sure how their instruction works but I want to go try them myself.

Ok, enough track day stuff in autox thread, when are you going to hit some cones?

Come to American autox spend $50 on entry for the event and $20 on unlimited practice course runs.

Me or others here would be happy to ride with you and give instruction.

got rear ended on Tuesday, car is in the shop, rental Yaris is a bit tempting to autox (same 5s press TC off button available, need to try pedal dance for lols) but there's other things to take care of in life.

Still a ton of events to make the rest of the year, AAS/SCCA can be show up, pay money, and drive, no messing about as long as your car isn't in a dangerous state of maintenance.

I'm interested in going this Saturday. How are AAS events typically run? I've only been to BMWCCA events.
