Wait are they serious? You negotiate with them? Show them your pay stubs or something as evidence you can afford the place?

Already showed them three pay stubs in the application. They required 2.5x monthly rent in gross income, which I have.

I listed the contact info for my current apartment's manager and how long I've been there (62 months now), so they could've literally picked up the phone and called the manager to ask if I'm a good tenant, which I am because I make all my rent checks on time and the right amounts.

And no, I'm not allowed to have a co-signer for the apartment.

And no, they didn't even try letting me negotiate; they already made an agreement with the person who was next in line (7+ applicants on the waiting list after me).

I would've offered 2 or 3x the deposit amount to secure my spot.

But nope.

Wow, sounds like a snooty type of complex. You'd probably end up hating the place anyway. Just say good riddance and find another one.

Peninsula, pretty much. Somewhere between Burlingame and Redwood City.

Anybody know a good spot for an oil change in the south bay or peninsula/sf-ish?

Originally thought I'd go to Neal but it's kinda far to go all the way up there and my weekends are kinda busy right now. At this point probably just going to the dealer for my first but might be curious on other local shops if there are reliable ones.

Elite Performance in Burlingame could help you or someone with a jack & tools for a pack of beers. Oil change is fairly simple and takes like 15 min at most. I have a bunch of gaskets for the stock oil drain plug if you want some for free. I bought a bunch of them and realized they weren't for the transmission drain plug a while back.
