I'm behind him, have to slow down to his speed, then an opportunity to pass opens up, and I put it into 4th from 6th? How do I blip 2 gears worth of revs? It just seems mechanically unsympathetic to me. Either way it just feels like a decent jolt to the system.
If it's a tight gap you can go all the way down to 3rd gear at 100 kph. You just got to match rev it to avoid the jolt. If you're floor it in 3rd gear at 100 kph, you can get back up to the normal flow of traffic pretty quick (120ish). Makes it much easier to get around these slow asses

You can't be shy to hit the redline in these cars. There is no power below 4500 RPM. Keep it between 4500 and 7400 RPM when you need to make a quick pass. The FA20 loves to rev

After seeing this idiot's other threads, I don't think he can post anything dumb enough to surprise me any more.

Will at least he is now down to early morning and late evening when school is out and his mom lets him on the computer. I assume he has to do his homework before he is allowed on. Speaking of which, I bet those essays are a blast to read.

This thread needs more E-Torx bolts. Seriously, replace each of your bolts with these for +5hp each and fly past everyone else on the highway.

Only if you can get them for 33% of the dealer cost!

Why not just move out and accelerate?

Careful! That would definitely be abuse, because passing people on the highway would be way harder on your car than tracking.

For me it depends on the circumstances. My wife and I did a 4000 mile road trip in our BRZ earlier this year. A majority of the miles were on secondary roads. I never had a problem passing anyone. Passing a 50 mph dawdler on a two lane I may have had to downshift on one occasion, maybe two. The rest of the time, traffic was generally very light. I'd make a gentle run up behind them, ease over into the on-coming lane and scoot by without upsetting them, my car, or the 18 wheeler headed the other way.

On the other hand if traffic was congested and passing opportunities few (and perhaps, tight) I'd want to spend as little time in the oncoming lane as possible. For many years I rode all over Texas, Louisiana, and Arkansas on 350 to 450 cc motorcycles. Their 60-80 mph times were not the stuff of legend. So, you learned to set passes up, and use what the engine and the terrain gave you. My understanding is that is the situation SOCE was laying out. The key was and is planning. If you're going to need to downshift, you should be able to figure it out before you try to execute the pass. Sooo, go ahead and downshift while you're behind the blocker before you make the pass. The order of operations is, IMHO, important. Accelerate - then move out and pass. No runs no drips, no errors. Not really any need for drama.

Let's use this thread to show prospective buyers that the 86 can leave other cars in the dust, when correctly dropped into the upper ranges.
It will also teach current owners who do not understand how to downshift ...how this works.

Please post dashcam clips that demonstrate correct passing. I'll post one in the next day or two.

Incorrect.

I was flooring it all day and got passed by basically everyone at COTA.

Stop with your bullshit incorrect assumptions.
