Drift setup
Hello guys, i'm looking to potentially drift my brz in the near future. I just don't know much about suspension. So what do you all suggest as for lower control arms, toe arms, etc.? What specific brands are good for this?

for some one just starting take the car for two event completely stock just to get feeling for the car i dont recommend drifting without coilover but still you need to drift stock first to get used to the car. then try coilover ,uel headers that is enough for long time,e85 will help but not necessary then you can start adding more slowly. you dont need to get aftermarket suspension to drift a car but once you get used to stock angle and the car ,your choice are pbm or wisefab there are other kits but they dont give you as much angle ,and once you get the angle you will need more power so start slow its alot cheaper reliable and more fun to be able to drive to the track and back to your place with no issues dont forget to remove the abs fuse and up the air pressure. i use ns-20 205/40r17 with 60psi it cost about 65$ installed. |

Won't having some negative camber help with drifting though? I do eventually want to eventually make it a full on drift car, but as of now i want to keep dd available. And just a note, I don't want to cheap out on any parts so please only list good parts. |

go to https://store.partsshopmax.com/shop/FRSBRZ/ they have just about every component you will need to get a full drifting set up (suspension and steering wise) and they are pretty quality from what I have heard. but as QTR FMS has said you should just go stock for a few rounds to get used to drifting. you don't need camber to do it, though it wouldn't hurt to help lose traction (shred your tires quicker though). still for starting out no need to drop $1500+. as you progress slowly upgrade until you are content. if you want to be able to lose traction like you car has 500+hp then you can downsize rear wheel width to something skinnier and it will slide like you put some ky jelly all over the pavement. there is a fun video on it actually, here! one of the reason i want you to try drifting stock cause coilover is hard to adjust and no one can help you with it you will have to try based on trial and error, and add more parts will make it harder to figure out, and trust me even if you spent atleast 20k that doesnt mean it will be drift ready it will mean more time not drifting, happend to me on my project car that it been 4 years now and i only drove the car once the day i bought it before it broke down and its still not done and my daily after i installed angle kit, keep it as stock as possible to get the most seat time. aftermarket suspension doesnt have bushing it uses spherical bearings so after every drift event you will have to torque every bolt, its even worse for a daily drive, and alignment changes more often by it self (road bumps vibration etc),every part you add it makes the car less reliable to drift or daily with, you will have to do more maintenance. frs have a boxer engine so the frame is wider and there is not enough space for the front wheels there will be lot of rubbing, it took me 4 month to figure out how to get almost full lock but there is lots of clearance issue that im having but not as bad, those 4 month i wasnt able to drift because i broke a wheel by hitting the frame hard when i was countersteering,im still rubbing with the front bumper ,swaybar couple parts of the frame and body, thats with 8.25 +25 wheel with 30mm spacer and extended lower control arm by 2.25'', so i recommend 7'' wheel and 215/40r17 or smaller tire in the front ,i think the stock wheel would work with 50mm spacer i will check it next week(im still trying to figure out how to get more clearance without cutting or buying expensive wheels). the only thing you will benefit from suspension is less ackermen it will help you getting more speed at higher angle instead of slowing you down. my setup is: jdl uel k&n drop in filter flexfuel sensor dt stage 2 tune pbm coilover and angle kit zero'ish ackermen federal rsr front 215/34r17 rear ns-20 205/40r17 this is the most i would recommend for dollar to performance parts anything else i think might be useless, and for a reliable daily drifter, this setup is for someone that have enough experience to handle the stock angle and link every corner to a pro level who dont want to build full drift car. anything more you will have to add a turbo kit which is not for a daily driver at all atleast not in a car that gets lot of abuse weekly. pbm parts are not as good as every one says they work but they are not good, the quality is cheap made in china , the suspension parts are universal so there is alot of spacers to make it fit and correct geometery, so i would recommend wisefab over pbm if you want quality parts. |

Extra camber "with coilovers" more comes from fact, that many of them have camber plates in set. But some of them don't. And one can purchase camber plates separately & use them with stock springs & struts (which actually are unadjustable coilovers). (there is also thing, that many aftermarket coilovers are intended for lowering, and with lowering one also naturally can gain some extra negative camber too).
But yes, many mention need for loads of negative camber for drift alignment, so at very least one should get camberbolts, but preferably compliment those with camberplates for much more camber. Or go for coilovers, limiting choice to ones with camberplates, but i'm not that sure that they are that much needed. Better spend that coilover budget on extra tire sets that will be quickly burned through / more seat time at track/training .

Go to Parts Shop Max. They have everything you'll ever need and more to get your BRZ hooked up. They're located in Escondido. As for basic set up to get started, look into coilovers and steering angle mods. You'll get more control of the car with adjustable front camber to help with understeer. I run the parts shop max knuckles on my car and love them! I don't have the full angle kit but the knuckles alone are awesome and plenty of angle for light periodic track use. Honestly, just go talk to the guys at the shop and they'll get you going in the right direction. poweredbymax.net

i honestly dont know alot about coilovers, but i hear people recommend stance bc pbm and kw. some say that kw is too soft for drifting you would have to custom valving. regardless of what you pick you will need pbm bearing spacer for camber hat to prevent binding. i just went with pbm coilover to match the angle kit and its made for drifting and daily driver. wisefab is the best kit you can buy but for most of the people its not worth the extra money when pbm work almost the same. edit: pbm coilover is comfortable feels almost stock, i tried using lowering springs before and i dont recommend it even for just a drop. |

http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showp...&postcount=394 I made this post to pretty much address all of the questions people may have when they start drifting, specifically with this platform. A lot of people have PM'd me and said it helped them immensely. It should pretty much answer all of your questions to get started, as it's pretty in depth.
