To be clear it is more of an accuracy of the estimated mileage competition. If a car said it got 2 MPG and they tested it and it actually got 3MPG then it would be a 50% improvement over the estimate and it could make the list.

That is the MPG I get in my 2017 86, I drive mostly 90% freeway. Most of it without traffic, how you ask. I leave my house at 5:30 am to work. And come home around 2:00 pm. So I miss most of the LA traffic. Plus I have a 100 miles round trip. I average about 75MPH.

I am very pleased with the fuel economy. I'm getting 31.5 mpg average, over the last ~2,000 miles...That's icing on the cake for a sports car!

So silly. The EPA numbers (which generally suck) are 21/28/24 for the 2017 86. The Miata is 27/34/30. Then you have the new Camry with the V6 that is rated 22/32/26 mpg, and that car has 301 hp and weighs north of 3300 pounds.

I want an 86 with the new "Dynamic Force" V6 just to see if it could match the 86's real world numbers while providing sub-5 second 0-60 times.

I've been consistently getting 28.3-28.6 on my '16. TRD wheel package and staggered Continental ECS probably losing 2-3 MPG.

I believe it. I was averaging 31 mpg with the stock tires in mostly highway driving. Then I installed 9.5" wide RPF1 rims with Pilot Super Sports, and I lost 6-7 mpg. It's not hard to get those numbers stock.

You can do even better if you hypermile. But if you hypermile this car, why the hell did you buy this car?

The conditions you drive in is everything.

Get out of traffic get on a flat smooth road and set cruise control to 65 mph for a day and enjoy >30 mpg. Any conditions where you have to slow down and accelerate will ruin your fuel economy in a combustion engine.

Again. It isn't the numbers they were rating the car by. It was how far above the numbers the car reached on average. Doesn't matter that other car have higher numbers unless they tested at an average greater than the others.
