The dealership i ordered my FR-S from offered me a test drive as soon as i walked thru the door! They even took the car out of the show room for me! I came out of my tC2 salesman said"u looking at the fr-s" and i said Yea he said ok brb, next thing i know car was out of the lot with license plates and it only had 8miles on it.. It was the color i wanted and i didnt even buy that one just because it was in the show room! i ended up ordering...Salesman told me the cars have been flying out of the showroom that buyers dont even care how many miles are on the car"they Just gotta have it"..They said the first frs to show up the manager borrowed the car for a week and put 300 miles on it! the day he returned it someone bought it, n guy didnt give a hard time about taking money off!(he traded in his 2010 mercedes c350 for it) they have sold 5 fr-s and each one has only lasted 2 days in the showroom according to them...So i guess right now dealerships dont care if they lose u or not cuz they know that if u dont buy it someone else will!

Sorry to hear of your experience OP. I was lucky, I drove to the dealer, grabbed the keys, 20 min later did the paper work.. No deposit, no wait list. Just buy and drive home.

Sometimes you just get a bad sales person it happens.

The first FRS that came in at my dealership was on the floor and we did not allow people to test drive that one per the GM then our second one came in and we used that for test drives.

The problem is a vehicle like that draws a ton of people who (not in your case) have 0 intentions on purchasing the vehicle. I had a customer tell me to "buckle up I plan to redline this" I didnt let him drive the vehicle needless to say.

You are a serious buyer and it sucks you had a bad experience but you need to remember for some odd reason there are a lot of people who go and test drive cars because they are bord.

If someone is serious about getting this car.. then they shoulc come in and order it. In my region there are TWO Manual FR-S available.. TWO in like a 250 mile radius. Theres only 8 or so AT available as well. I think if you want this car, and had the chance to drive or sit in it somewhere.. then by all means come in and order one instead of complaining that there aren't any out there.

If you want to be first.. you have to deal with stuff like that. We sell the car at the Scion Pure price.. no mark-ups or BS.. and still I have had only two people out of perhaps 20 inquiries that have come in to order it. For me personally.. I'm waiting til next Spring as I am saving to be able to put a hefty down payment on the car. I wish you luck in your search.. but understand that not all dealers are that way.. I know for a fact that we aren't.
I think a lot of people have a problem putting down $500 on a car they may have never seen and most likely have never driven. I know I would be.

I provided my dealer what I was looking for (white out / MT), they had the car ready for me in about a week and a half with no deposit from me. Granted, there's a lot of variables.

Thats so true.. there are ALOT of variables.. especially that the West Coast gets them before us East coasters..lol. Believe me.. If we could get the car in a week either with or without a deposit we would. Beside my being an enthusiast and wanting to see everyone get their hands on this car,, My Dealership is a business and its here to move Iron.. So if we could get it to a customer faster right now.. we would. Again.. wait six months or so and i'm sure it will be that easy.. but if you want to be first.. you will most likely have to wait. Congrats on getting yours btw!!

My friends does this a lot. Every weekend he'll go to a dealership just to test drive cars that he'll probably never buy just cause he is bored.

I use to work at a Mercedes Benz store and we would have to weed through people and try to figure out who was a serious buyer and who just wanted to test drive a Benz. It sucks that sometimes serious buyers are not taken serious but it happens.

That's why dealers are hesitant to let people take the cars out for test drives...they probably see this constantly. Your friend needs to get a life...

I went for the second test drive of my life but I am not going to buy a FR-S till next year because I won't have the one I want for 6-8 weeks which brings me to winter time already. Feel bad for test driving now :/
