That thread was a classic.

And his mom, or the pic he posted as his mom, was MILFalicious.

You showed up just about 6 months too late for the age of entertainment here.

Many just disappeared and the focus seems to have changed from entertainment and good natured banter to "spoon feed me info and agree with me or I will wish you dead".

Just wait till these cars get down to the $10k price point and I'm sure the forum will be flooded.

Wait till the car gets discontinued, then you can see the Second Coming.

This isn't the first time someone has introduced a cheap, moddable RWD sports car for the masses. We're still trying to digest the first few (Corolla, 240SX, etc)...

Neither of those, at least in my opinion, are anywhere near as attractive which is one reason I could see a surge in people buying these at a low price point before discontinuation. Also, it'll be a lot easier to find a $10k frs/brz than a 240sx with reasonable reliability, limited mods etc. when the time comes especially assuming that most will be daily driving as well.

but you have to put both of your statements in a timeframe context.

the 240SX was perfectly reliable, or full of bugs, depending on who owned it. in 1999 the S13 was 5 to 10 years old, depending on what year you were buying. The S14 was anywhere from 1 to 4 years old.

The point I'm making is that "forums being flooded" because the cars hit a price point doesn't mean a whole lot. Things really start picking up when the cost of the car drops to the point where engine swaps cost more than the cost of the car, especially once aftermarket swap kits get more creative.

Of course, if you want to compare shopping for a car in 2018 for a used 3-5 year old FRS/BRZ vs shopping in 2018 for a 20-30 year old S13/14, then that's wildly out of context and nowhere near an accurate comparison. Back in 2000 I could easily find a S14 in decent condition for around $10k (I almost bought one back then), nowadays I'd have to beg someone to even consider selling me a car that is in mint condition for less than $15k due to "drift tax"

Edit: of course, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Popup headlights were all the rage in 1980s Japanese designs because they have mandated headlight heights that could not be achieved without these popup designs.

This is getting way deeper than I was originally intending but I agree with the points you're making here. I guess my main point is that ~$10k price point is very doable for people who are buying a car just to mod, aren't financing etc. especially for a younger crowd more likely to buy an impractical car.

It will be interesting to see where it goes as the buyers get younger.
The first few years show a much, much older general ownership than most would think. With only 18% of the FRS buyers being under 35 this forum really skews the perception. Of course that makes sense for the new car buyers and as used ones get cheaper the demographic will change dramatically.

The cars that were traded also tells an interesting story if you think about it:
