Edelbrock intake

Has anyone swapped out the intake for either a cone filter, or something else?
I feel like EB kinda dropped the ball on this one.

Why do you feel that they dropped the ball? I like the fact that it's drawing air from in front of the radiator vs. inside the engine compartment like a cone filter without CAI would. Unless the cone filter is mounted in front where you'd have to take the bumper cover off to maintain it.

In design and function, the EB is not much different from the TRD intake.

How did they drop the ball? It is one of the nicest designed intakes, and works excellently with the kit.

Are you looking to replace a functional cold air intake with a cosmetic hot air intake?

This. In fact some members here have asked whether EB would sell the intake only so they could adapt it for use on other FI systems, or just to replace the stock airbox.

LOL That was exactly my thoughts but I wasn't sure how to say it!

Edelbrock didn't drop the ball, they did a hell of a job.

There's a misconception that cone filters make more power than panel filters. That's untrue. The design has more to do with it than the filter shape.

Perhaps it's still sour feelings because my install is still fresh in my memory, but the intake is the only part I struggled with. The shell design almost seemed warped to me when clamping it together, made me question it.

I was thinking if anyone has adapted a grimmspeed intake to the kit

Unlike NA engines, cold air intake is not that much important with FI engines when there is an intercooler. Air warms up anyway while going through the compressor. Air flow rate is more important than intake temperature.

I don't think a cone filter would match the surface area of the Edelbrock intake. That thing is huge.

to be honest besides sound, which i will be undertaking as a side project after this car show season is over. There is really no reason to go "CAI" the design we have is pretty much immaculate and more so a proper panel is pretty much all you'll ever need, plus two stock air filter cost as much as one life time panel filter so. Its definitely worth it.

Never understood this myself.... besides, the bonnet is closed when it counts - while you're driving and enjoying the power (well it should be anyway )
