New BRZ owner, thinking about Opticoat.
Hey all,
After months of research and anticipation, I'm excited to say I'm the new owner of a brand new 2017 BRZ. Really looking forward to being a part of this forum. I'm scheduled to have an evaluation for a full Opticoat Pro application in a few days at a detail shop I found on Yelp, and I wanted to get some opinions about Opticoat and related products. -I want to make sure I'm not missing out of other quality products that do a better job than Opticoat. -For those that have Opticoat, approximately how much did it cost you? -Any recommendations for shops in Orange County would be much appreciated. I searched this forum, but I wanted something current and relevant to the OC area. Opinions/thoughts/expertise welcome!

I got opticoat on my 2017 BRZ the day after I got it. Paid 800 for the full detail prior, and the opticoat application, with a follow up wash that I haven't scheduled yet. Located in Dallas

I have a ceramic coating on my car. It's great but it won't stop stone chips. If stone chips are going to bother you then I suggest a 3M type film.

It will stop light chips beautifully. It will not do a thing against beiger stones or debris. In fact if it gets torn at all it looks even worse than the chips. I am removing mine but I get hit by more than the average amount of stuff due to the extensive time I spend on the highway (and driving through Detroit).

Swings and roundabouts.. At the end of the day it's going to deteriorate whatever you do.. Shiny things go dull, dull things get shiny, painted things lose paint and unpainted things attract paint.. BTW: had your car re-sprayed? Or still at the "cutting my grass" stage? |

I paid $400 for my Opticoat Pro. There wasn't much paint correction to do so it was a fair price to pay. Damn best investment on my car.
Prepping of the car is labor intensive & applying the ceramic coating is not difficult at all. Paint correction is what costs $$$$. I only had a small swirl on bottom of my hood. Your car is brand new so there really should not be much paint correction to do. Unless the dealer put your car thru an automatic car wash and you got marring & swirls all over. I went to two different detail shops to get quotes. I suggest you do the same and make sure the person doing the Opticoat Pro is an authorized installer of their product. http://opticoat.com/dealer/usa Most of my car now has Cquartz Finest. Hahaha! only passenger side has Opticoat Pro now. Detail shop I go to does only Cquartz Finest now. Long story but anyways get your car ceramic coated. The cost should not cost more than I'd say $500.00. Good luck! |

I had opticoat applied after delivery of the car 5 years ago and to this day it's still makes me admire the deep gloss look of the paint after a quick wash. It certainly won't stop paint swirls if you're not careful with the washing (like myself) but from a distance you can definitely tell if a twin has been opticoated or not. It gives more depth to the colour and a fresh waxed look after every wash. Worth every $$$$ I spent on it.

Save money for a re-spray if you actually have the car when it needs one.

Thanks for all the responses guys. I was quoted $1,395 for Opticoat Pro Plus by a shop in Costa Mesa, which was WAY more than what I was expecting. Needless to say I'll continue to shop around.
