I seem to remember product planning saying the new HU doesn't hit BRZ until MY19 but I'll try to verify.

Android Auto's site already lists 2018 BRZ on there, so that means Apple CarPlay is probably coming as well? Would you rather take a $500 discount (just making up a number here) on a 2017 or get a 2018 with CarPlay?

Fuck. Does that mean the 2017's are stick with the shitty head units? It seems like every year this car is getting better.

Haha yeah this is what I'm on the edge about. I'm thinking of just waiting until the MY2018 instead of pulling the trigger now and getting a MY2017. If the my2018 sucks then hopefully I can still find a 2017 model to buy

Keep in mind that dealers don't have a ton of 2017 BRZs sitting around, so you are running the risk of not getting the color and possibly the trim that you want with the 2017 model if you want to wait until the 2018 models actually open up for orders. This is especially true if you want a 2017 with the PP.

I honestly think CarPlay is a bit overrated as all the CarPlay factory units I've seen have had various forms of UI lag that were just long enough to be mildly annoying, but having a more reliable head unit that hopefully doesn't drop bluetooth is tempting. As I currently just use my car head unit for streaming music and don't care to take calls while driving, I would probably go for a 2017 model if I can get more substantial savings (say around $1000?).

Good point but we know MY18 is going to get Android Auto. Doesn't that imply CarPlay as well?

Considering the track record on how shitty Subaru HUs are, you'd be better off buying an aftermarket HU with Android Auto/Carplay.

Subaru hasn't released any info yet on the '18s, and sold orders typically start a month or two after they do.

That means the dealers can start to order a specific car.

It's not about the head unit, its about the car.

Get the car, color, tranny, package that you want, at a good price. After 3 yrs of using the HU, it won't be under warranty any longer, pull it out and sell it. Then get the real deal = ////Alpine
