It arrived today so I'm gonna install it in the next day or two and feed back my impressions to anyone that might be interested.

I could be totally wrong, but I'm pretty sure these head units won't do that on any phone, android or otherwise. With two SD card slots there's no real reason to ever connect your phone, for music anyway.

I usually use SoundCloud or Spotify from my phones data and shuffle the music through the buttons on the headunit.

I see...in the case of apps and not music on a card I think the more common approach is to run the apps on the head unit and use your phone as a hotspot. That way you can run google maps, youtube, etc. off the head unit as well.

On top of what was said above, install Spotify on your headunit too and hotspot through phone. Works out to be the same. Btw fido has a good data plan going on $15/month for 2gb or something, decent price for LTE for the car on a more permanent basis

Hmm wouldn't a hotspot be slow? Lol I use about 10-15 gigs a month on my phone so 2 gb won't be that good :p

But 15 gigs for music/gps :o?! It wouldnt be slow at all. Especially for what you are doing (I'm guessing music/gps). Plenty enough bandwidth.

Not noticeably any slower than your phone and even a 'high quality' setting spotify stream is only ~300kbps, so nope

I appreciate that. You've been nothing but helpful thru both threads . I can't wait to get my obdlink SX. By the way does it start up and connect by itself to the headunit? Can you also have widgets on the front screen like these on my nexus 7
