We weren't talking about the EPA pulling people over, nor did anybody say anything about federal emissions laws. We were talking about California and its oppressive regulatory environment that encourages the police to pull people over and harass them because they think they smell a violation. Police in most other states don't do that. And when California cops do it, I seriously doubt they're writing a ticket on behalf of the EPA for violation of federal law. In fact, I don't think I've ever heard of a private citizen being pulled over and given a $2700 federal fine for a missing cat.

Any basis to your presumptions or are you just assuming? Generally every "got pulled over" thread I've read about in California came with a non-emissions moving violation, emissions gets added on after the fact as a bonus because a lot of "enthusiasts" are **** heads. Edit: Sorry, there's a lot of things I don't mind people trashing, but emissions laws and the idea that California is some sort of fascist state where big brother is watching are two things that irk me. I'll pull the ripcord now, I'm out. For a parting shot: Hey at least I don't live in a place that forces you to pay for annual checks to your ride height, tire wear, or alignment for compliance to local regulations while they hunt for non-approved aftermarket parts.

If you're struggling whether to go catted or catless, read more on this here: https://tinyurl.com/catted-vs-catless
I can tell you from experience, I have a UEL catless header, with a high flow cat on the front pipe. Yes, I can definitely smell the gas with the windows fully opened and at a stop, but other than that, I don't notice a difference as I'm driving.
