If only they could build to order what customers order
with the exception of demo cars etc. I can imagine the GTS outselling the GT at the moment and the white colour backlog

No surprise here.

I'm sure there are dealerships who have acted in good faith, but there will be many who have just locked in future sales AND grabbed those they could by being able to deliver immediately. It's called making hay while the sun shines. Anyone in Qld or NSW who wants the number of a broker who can shop the dealers around for you (even if it's only on the basis of dates), send me a PM. |

That will happen, but can't do that at release or everyone would be waiting 6 months.... It's a matter of Toyota Australia getting what they were given (or ordered to start with).

Which makes me wonder, would the more popular dealerships - their stock controllers would have more sway/power in getting the cars they want?
I can't really see a stock controller at a rural dealership having the same power as one in the city getting the car they want unless they find someone they can trade with ? |

It is likely Toyota Aus had to commit to an order with Japan for the first 6 months. since they had no data to go by, they had to place an order with whatever demand they think there will be. for future years, they might be able to change the mix but they will not be able to do custom orders like the Euro brands. because their production models (as in business model) between these companies are different. so if you want a black one and all the black ones planned for the year are sold, you will still need to wait for next years allocation. they are not going to change a silver car to a black one even if it's not produced. |

But I think you can be smart about minimising your wait time. For example say you wanted an AT GTS - it wouldn't be the brightest option going to say Sydney City Toyota since AT will be very popular in the city region and the GTS will also be popular given that if you live close to the city you are generally well off. |

Hence why I think if you really want the car ASAP, you are better off monitoring carsales and once one comes up just snap it up, even if you have to pay extra for interstate delivery.
Cars are going all over the place at the moment! |

Look guys it's pretty simple. If you have orders for GTS manuals why wouldn't you fill them first ? There seems to be a heap of a/t's available !
Let's see 50 preorders for manuals, let's build automatics and create queues! I don't get it! The dealership has preorders, fill them first. Not hard. Everyone still gets a car, maybe not GTS manual initially ? |

I think it has to do with Toyota's pricing. Remember AT is an extra $2500 here - whereas in other countries it's about $1000. So TMCA is trying to sell as many ATs as planned in order for them to be profitable. I think this is also how they managed to price the car under $30k - by letting the AT buyers pay a premium.

look, i just wish toyota was upfront about this from the get go.
i thought going to toyota and ORDERING A CAR, meant that i was ordering a car like any other toyota, the time it takes, is the time it take for them to build that car.. like with any other car you have to custom order like an M3 or AMG i didnt know that if i went to dealer A and and said i want X it would be a diffferent waiting time to going to dealer B and asking for X.. i thought i was only choosing my closest dealer to pick it up from. :< well, i know now.. |
