Tow Strap Takata Installation ???
Hi,
I just get this Takata tow strap that i wanna install in front of the FR-S as one the picture below. I want to let some part of the tissu go out by the fence. But the original hook does not fit and is too long to do such things and the steel section of the takata tow strap is too big to enter in, i guess i need to cut somewhere etc.. Is there anyone who already intall this and who knows how to install it ? Is there some tool i can use ? How to do the fence cut in the plastic without domaging it, is there a guide to help you cut in the right place, and wich tool do you use ? Thanks |

I'm not 100% sure what you're getting at here, but I imagine you're looking for some tips on installing this properly.
I would tackle this project by first removing the bumper. From there, you've got to find a point to anchor it. You could start by either finding a bolt that threads into the stock tow hook point, bolting it in, and threading it through the bumper hole. Then, I'd put painters tape on your tow hook cover cap thing, and dremel a slot in it. If this sounds confusing or difficult, I wouldn't attempt this project.

do this on the opposite side, and be careful with the dremel when you make a hole in the cover

Alternatively i saw some guy said they cut the metal part to weld it to the stock tow hook that they cut also to the specific lenght.... ouf I guess my ideal goal is to find a pieces that can be thread into the stock tow hook point and that is smaller in lenght so i could close the cap after. Also easy to remove if i want to switch for a license plate tow hook relocation kit per exemple ![]() Thanks for the info |

Ugh I hate that. We have one at each end on our LeMons car. Very functional, I've proved that point more times than I care to admit.

I would prefer a strap over the stock insert. Those things are known to snap under the slightest side load. I watched the angle like a nervous parent the one time we used it to winch the car onto a flatbed.

Another (admittedly theoretical) benefit is if you tag the wall with a toe strap instead of OEM tow hook, there is less chance of bending the frame the toe hook is screwed into. Does anyone have any thoughts on how likely this theory is to be true?
