Just got my toycam3 and something isn't right. The picture below shows the harness that came with the radio on the left and the toycam3 on the right. Others have had this just plug and play, but mine are clearly different. The one that came with the head unit plugs into the car just fine. The toycam 3 does not. Am I just an idiot?

Kenwood DDX917WS head unit -- any installed?

For subarus you need the ax-subusb2 and you need to make a custom harness from the ax-sub28swc, you can also make the oem aux port to work with this harness.

Actually, you helped a lot. I took mine to a local shop and explained. They found that the remote trigger for the amp was not wired. Took all of a minute to fix. Carbon will definitely have to address this if they plan to sell more units to US buyers. Perhaps Aussie HUs are wired a little differently.

Anyway, all's well now. Damn, this unit sounds good with real bass!

Thanks again.

If I have a 2017 BRZ that came with backup camera do I need to get the 12-6v AX tomcam3 adapter?

Yes to both questions. The radio works, and you need to drop the voltage to 6V for the camera.

DDX917ws compatible with 2014 WRX Base Hatch

Hey guys, I'm looking to get a Kenwood DDX917WS from fasmoto shipped to Canada. Just wondering if anyone has any experience with installing this unit into a North American WRX. I see a few have done it in a BRZ but I want to make sure it will be compatible with my WRX. Any info would be much appreciated.

Does the 2014 WRX have a 200mm dash opening for the head unit? I can't find any documentation to that effect. Most non-Toyota cars do not have 200mm openings. Perhaps you should ask over on nasioc.com?

Guys, if you're interested DDX918WS came out: practically same specs, except for a little smaller screen but 720p.
Any chance of region change on 917?

Yes is does. I'm more concerned with the wiring. I still want all my OEM steering wheel controls and usb/aux ports to work. Also I've heard that the tuner doesn't pick up the same frequency.

I had the 917 and now the 918. Everything works on my 86 except dvd as it is region locked.

Really hope it fits my 2014 WRX. How much of a difference is the 917 to the 918? Is it worth the price difference?

The viewable screen size is smaller in the new 918. BUT it is HD. There are new settings, icons and better sound processor. My main reason to upgrade was the ability to control the optional Whetron Cameras for 360 viewing. Im still waiting for those to become available.

Why would the tuner not work? FM in Australia is 87.5-108 MHz. FM in US is 88-108 MHz. Things like HD Radio and tags might not work, but the stations should tune just fine.
