That section from 2:00-5:00 min mark is my favorite stretch of road in that area. I would go up and down that stretch at least half a dozen times before continuing on to 84 or pescadero towards the water. The combo of smooth asphalt, lovely medium-speed curves and slight cambering "loads" your suspension so well that it gives such a nice sensation of speed and g's. I do miss driving that road...

Lucky enough, I did find something similar out here in my neck of the woods, albeit a wee bit sketchier. Went "tripod" on my very first run through it and had a bit of a "pucker" moment lol. I've since learned my lesson and now know which corner snuck up on me and know when to slow down haha.

Yeah, hat tip to the designer of that road, that section is a lot of fun!

Pescadero Creek Rd also looked like a lot of fun in the forest! Need to drive that one!

It was really fun but the one thing that kind of annoyed me was the sunlight going in and out of the shadows. Without knowing the road (it was my first time going through it) I had some issues from the bright sunlight hiding the center line at times, noticeable between 3:30 and 3:42, as well as a couple other times on the drive as well.

I actually enjoy the little rays of light sneaking past the trees, but ya, for somebody not used to the road, I can see it being quite stressful. You guys just need to get there earlier and avoid the sun all together It's even more fun driving through during fall, whizing past all the leaves and kicking them up on your wake. It's like Forza Horizon IRL!

I do too! Makes driving that road very visually stimulating.

That's a great idea. Will have to do that this fall.

Sounds like I missed a great weekend of driving. Although I don't know how it compares to the joy of driving a 4runner with 5 people in it and any kind of incline. I think it's mostly the transmission, but that thing is a dog. You shouldn't need to manually shift a modern automatic just to get the thing to accelerate at a reasonable pace.

NorCal (Bay Area) DRIVE Chat Thread

I've been looking at this thread for a drive and hoping something matches my schedule. Finally! It did and I get to wake up early to join these awesome group of people again. I was going back and forth wether I should go or not because I have a mazda3 but the excitement to drive when I still had my 13 frs told me "just go" and knowing how open this community is.

It was a long commute, 1hr49mins according to google maps going to Alice's but it was a holiday so the road was clear. As I make my last turn going to Alice's I saw a lot of 86 already parked and that just made me excited of the turn out. My thought was, I'm late and maybe they are already enjoying their breakfast. So, I parked my little hatch on the side and went in just to grab a freshly brewed cup of coffee and some cheesesticks. Me and my wife munch the sticks as I waited for them to get done and see a familiar face to bring my butt out but I was seeing new faces so waited a little more. When I saw El presidente and Pmok, I went down there, checked out and admired each car in front of me. Each of the car just reminded me of the beauty of this car and how it felt when I still had one.

Moving forward, the main thing I like joining norcal86drive is the driver's meeting part to make sure that the whole group is safe and at the same time to enjoy the whole experience. I took the role of being in the last spot of the group and held one of the radio from Pmok.

As we started, I thought all of the cars of that pact were already in the road but nope, after a couple turns here comes one and an m3 in my rear view mirror so I gave way for them and next thing you know I was following the M3. All the way, the m3 and 86s were all planted in each corner looking from the rear. The drive from Alice's to Pescadero was awesome with few cars and bikers that gave way to us eventually. I did push my 150hp mazda3 hatch a little. The steering response was good and the suspension was responsive in each turn with little amount of body roll but did not feel like was floating. It did surprise me how well it performed. Maybe the g-vectoring technology they added or the skyactive working together? Who knows? but it sure felt good and I had fun!

In the last part going back home, we did see a good part of highway 1. Picture says it all. Phone and gopro pics as follows. Enjoy and looking forward for future drives!

Yep, and I love Hyperblue as a color that really stands out but that ruins my (poor) joke.
